XVP: my buddy's truck was stolen....

On January 22nd a good buddy of mine left on his adventure of moving
from Maine to Sacramento, CA. Along his week long drive across the
U.S. he got a flat tire in Oklahoma, a speeding ticket in Texas, and
his pick-up along with all his personal stuff stolen in Las Vegas.
He was staying at the MGM Grand, had parked in one of their lots
locked the truck (and the cap that covered the bed), and went in to
spend 2 nights on the strip. This was his first time in Vegas. The
next day he went out to drive to the Hoover Dam and found his truck
was gone.
By the sounds of things, security wasn't much help. His ride-along
needed to be in California on Monday for a flight back east, so his
insurance got them a rental car so they could continue on.
The kicker, which I just found out is.....his truck had been in an
impound lot in North Las Vegas for some time before they even
notified him. Ofcourse everything was taken and the truck has
considerable damage.
Just a thought for anyone thinking of not valeting their vehicle in
Vegas.

I think that the chances of this happening are just as good anywhere else in
the country. Vegas is no more susceptible to auto theft than any other
major city. I don't valet park in my home town and I won't valet park in
Vegas.

I am curious as to how many people on this list choose to valet park in
Vegas because of their fear of auto theft. I would imagine more people
valet park because of its convenience than any other reason. Still, I don't
like the idea of someone else driving my car and having access to all my
crap that I keep in it. I'll walk....and take my chances.

I like to valet park at casinos because I don't like the idea of someone watching me cash out and then following me out to my car to rob me. Call me paranoid, but I'd rather be in the well-lit, well-populated valet area, and a tip is a small price to pay for my "insurance."

I've done that (after hitting a royal), but it always makes me feel like a child. I'd rather just tip the valet.

Hi all: I met a new car dealer from Florida in the MGM sportsbook
who
valets a semitruck load right off the trailer into the valet of
where
else but the MGM. Seems he delivers to California and other western
states there and gets frequent trips to Vegas that way. The MGM
does
have some self park lots in back that are multi-level and when
parking
there I thought to myself wonder if my ragtop will have a new hole
upon
returning, I would bet this is where the truck was stolen...but I
think
those lots will be a convenient short walk to the new Hooters...

Lets get some Royals...Beachstu
