xvp - more on Palms buffet

Fortunately the Palms buffet continues to improve and now is generally about
the same quality as it was before it got split in half for never-ending
"remodeling." On a recent Thursday night, as well as Fri, Sat., and Sun nights,
there were crab legs (hot), Lebanese food (including the excellent Lebanese
rice and chicken, stuffed grape leaves, gyro meat, pita bread, hummus, etc), a
good selection of Chinese food, prime rib, etc. Whole fresh fruit such as
apples and bananas can be found on some nights.

Food is variable however, at the last VPfree lunch, the prime rib had the
smallest amount of center part I've ever seen. At dinner a day or two later
though, it was a normal prime rib. The hot crab legs also vary - they seem to
be king crab legs, but sometimes are small hunks, sometimes large legs,
sometimes tasty, sometimes not so much.

They've added a lot of deserts, and now have toppings for ice cream (thank
goodness - one of my favorites). Still no signage for the "English Trifle"
which was listed in advertising material as being one of the new "specials." I
asked for one and got something like a strawberry shortcake over pudding
(not bad). Just out of curiosity you might ask for it too!

Fruit also varies - sometimes a whole fruit salad, sometimes just canned
peaches and whole apples, sometimes melon, etc. And other food varies in type
and quality.

The menu on the outside of the buffet is also not entirely accurate.

However, all in all, we can say that the buffet is much improved.

Someone told me they saw the Palms main chef on the Food channel - touting
the new buffet and showing various items that all looked spectacular.
Unfortunately these don't seem to be there -- such as a fruit salad with Grand
Mariner on it. When I asked the chef (the one in charge for the day), he knew
nothing about the salad or the TV show.

Palms is continuing to send various coupons out, such as free or 2-for-1
buffets, and the recent coupon book received by some people this week has
discounts for the buffet and other food outlets. Slot card also get discounts
which can bring the $16.99 dinner price down considerably. With discounts (you
can't get lower than free), this buffet is now worth eating....but don't
expect Planet Hollywood's Spice Market, the Rio Carnival Buffet, or even Harrah's
new Flavors.
