My brother and his wife are interested in shows in the $35-50 range
and would like some recommendations. Also, there is supposed to be a
discount ticket booth somewhere near the Venetian. Has anyone heard
of this?

I think you are refering to the "Passaporto" which has coupons for
the Venetian and Grand Canal Shoppes. I looked at this last year
and did not find anything of great value (there was a $5 off Lord of
the Dance coupon). Ask for it at the shop that sells gondola tickets.
