XVP: Matzah on the strip?

Because it's Passover, I was trying to find a restaurant or buffet on the strip that serves matzah. Before going out to play, my husband and I made a number of calls (including to the supposedly "Jewish" delis) and were unsuccessful in our efforts.

Does anyone know of any restaurants that serve matzah during Passover? (At this point, I'm wondering about any restaurants in the valley - not just the strip...)

  Thanks,
  Lainie

  Lainie,
Staions had a big ad in the paper last week advertising their menu for Passover. That is the only one I have seen.
  Cheers!

There are 4 or 5 kosher restaurants in Las Vegas. If you go to a
website called www.shamash.org, you can search for them and bring up
their phone numbers and try and see if any are open during Passover.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the site. I called all the "sit down" restaurants on their list, and they were closed.

As a matter of fact, I know a bagel store that is open and selling
bagels throughout Passover. They were, however, closed for Easter.

On a more serious note, Green Valley has matzoh in the buffet, I would guess all Stations do and probably some others, too. At 07:51 AM 4/17/2006, you wrote:

Too funny, Bill!

The Bagel store closed for Easter. The Kosher restaurants closed
for Passover. Next December 25th will we hear that all the churches
are closed for the holiday? (-:

During every Jewish holiday, the Fiesta Henderson buffet dedicates part of the salad bar for
kosher foods, including a basket of matzah, lox, gelfite fish, and other items I'm unfamiliar
with (I'm not Jewish). It's always worth a call to any buffet you plan on eating in to see if they
do the same, since it would seem to be pretty easy for them to do.

On a related note, many people do not realize that the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf shops all over
the valley are kosher (they use powder instead of syrups and special milk). All of their drinks
and breakfast pastries are kosher, though I don't think that their cakes are.

The other night, the Rampart buffet had charoset in addition to
matzah. First time I've ever seen it at a buffet.

Wow - that could make it worth the drive... (I LOVE charoset, and I didn't make any this year...)

Thanks Bettie! BTW, I think that the cakes at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf are kosher too -- I know they are in California, and I think they use the same bakery here.

Lainie,

According to the manager at the GVR shop where I get my daily dose of caffeine, their letter
of certification is slightly different than the CA stores, and she thinks it's because of the
cakes. She's not Jewish herself, and wasn't sure if it was all cakes or just some of them. You
can always ask the employees, but I've learned that most of them don't even realize that the
store is kosher! She was sure, however, that all breakfast pastries/bagels were kosher. BTW,
have you tried the new zest "slushies"? I love the lemon flavor!

Oh, and an "advantage play" for anyone who stops in at the GVR location. Show your Stations
players card and you'll get 10% off of everything you order. This isn't true of the location in
the District.

Can you enlighten a non-Jewish ex-New Yorker CCNY graduate...what is
charoset?

There are many different preparations, but charoset a mixture of apples (or pears), nuts (usually walnuts or pecans) and traditional sweet kosher wine. Some people add cinammon or use dried fruit (I don't).

Everything that's served in the seder ceremony represents something related to the story of the exodus from Egypt, and the story of the exodus is told during the seder. Charoset symbolizes the mortar that was used in the building of the Egyptian pyramids. I hope this helps.

At the Fiesta Rancho Buffet on Thursday and Friday, they had matzos,
matzo ball soup, smoked fish, lox, bagels, chopped liver, and cookies.
