Is the LVH still using a multi-trip average for determining up front
offers, or has it changed with the new ownership, or is it anybody's
guess?
(XVP) LVH Comp question
I was told last weekend by a host that they are still using the multi-
trip average to determine what level you are brought in on (i.e., C1 -
C3).

Has anyone stayed at LVH recently and what was your experience like?
My wife and I stayed there two weeks ago and the service was
attrocious. The employees were coarse and rude and we had details of
an offer switched on arrival. My wife joked that an indifferent
employee would have been refreshing. The experience was so bad we
checked out and moved to another hotel. Anyone else expereinced this
recently or is ours a one off experience? I was going to write a
letter of complaint, but since we'd never go back I wasn't sure it was
worth wasting the time.
Would you care to detail what they switched on your offer?

I hate to hear stories like this. We stayed one month ago, and it was a
standard issue trip for us. We had none of the coarse and rude
encounters of which you speak. Other than the construction work and
noise, we had a nice trip. I have found the employees not to be overly
friendly, but courteous, and that is fine with me. It must have been
really bad to check out and move to another hotel. Ouch.

I concur. We just returned from LVH today -- our first LV visit in 2
years (poorer offers in general plus higher airfares have pretty much
kept us at bay -- it took a childhood friend of my wife's who's a HUGE
"Barry" fan to goad us into the trip ;).
We were extraordinarily pleased with our staff experience. Of
particular value is that if you're brought in C3 or better you have
access to the VIP lounge staff. These folks are super -- in many
cases they're better prepared to deal with some special requests than
the hosts are.
They'll go out of their way to accomodate room requests to the extent
possible, make event arrangements, review/assist with your room
account charges, etc. However, it's best to approach them with some
finesse. They're often besieged by players who go on the offensive
(the word's applied literally here) and are unreasonable in their
expectations, leaving these folks a bit wary. A little charm will go
far in cutting through any initial frost encountered.
I'll go on to say that we had very favorable experiences with staff
members at several restaurants over the course of our 4 nights --
including the accomodation of fairly specific special requests in 2 cases.
I'd suggest that worldbefree's encounters were, as he suggested it
might be, a "one off" experience.

Perhaps that was the differentiator. We don't gamble a lot -- hence
don't interact with hosts or staff in a VIP room -- but spend money
and tip liberally. Our passions are live entertainment and fine
dining. We certainly don't demand anything. Our experience is
probably closer to what typical tourists encounter. It was my wife
who was really the target of the bad behaviour. Having stayed in
Hiltons around the world for business I've never encountered this sort
of thing before. That's what motivated my question. I wondered if
the LV Hilton was somehow different from the rest of the chain.
Thanks for the replies. I won't waste anymore energy on it.
Yes, the Las Vegas Hilton is different than the rest of the "chain". In
fact it is not part of the Hilton chain, and has not been through the
last 2 owners. It is now owned by Colony Capital, and they only use the
name as part of the purchase deal.

You've nailed the situation. Setting the gaming aside and evaluating
the property strictly for the hotel operations, it's relatively
subpar. Unless coming into the hotel under favorable gaming terms,
we would never choose to stay there.
Hilton originally purchased the property, as well as many other US
casinos (incl. the Flamingo, AC Hilton, etc.), in the very early 70's.
When it divested them it continued to license the name. Presumably
there are some quality thresholds that must continued to be met. But
I expect the bar is set at a level met by the lowest quality Hilton
hotels.
That said, on-going renovations are bring notable improvements to the
property.

At the LVH I have always received Hilton points and my "stays" are listed in
my Hilton profile. Something related to Hilton is taking place, or have I walked
into the middle of some conversation that I do not understand?
