XVP: Luxor questions

My brother and his gf are staying at Luxor next week. Neither of them have much Las Vegas experience. I have never stayed at Luxor so I am unable to offer advice. Here are few questions.

I'm assuming rooms on the north side of the hotel would provide a better view of the strip than the east side facing the airport. Is that correct?

Are hotel clerks on the strip still likely to upgrade guests to a suite if a $20 tip is properly presented?

Anything else a newbie should know about Luxor?

Thanks

Don

My wife and I stayed at the Luxor last year. Answer to questions...
- Not sure about the North / South view. We stayed in the Pyramid and had a view of Mandalay Bay and could see some airplanes landing... not a bad view.

- $20 trick did not work for us. Hotel clerk told me that an upgrade was available for an additional $19/night. I said no, I was looking for a complimentary upgrade and she said sorry, there were none available.

- Hallway / Mall connecting Luxor to Mandalay bay has a good burger bar.

- Found 8/5 JOB along the wall near the Poker room. (i think...)

- Tacos and Tequila makes a nice Marguerita!

Best show I've seen in Vegas is Carrot Top. Sometimes very raunchy though....I think the steroids are getting to him.

I can't vouch for the $20 trick, but if you want to try it, try it and see what happens.

Luxor is one of the places that will be happy to give you a better room for an upgrade charge at checking (rates will vary) and will probably ask you if you want to upgrade if you have a regular room.

I have never stayed in the pyramid. I have only been in the Tower.
Facing north is good, but you need to make sure that your room is high enough to get above Excalibur.

The Luxor lost its Egyptian theme a long time ago. There are still remnants of it, but for the most part it has a more modern urban kind of look. They have more bars now than they did a few years ago.

Make sure to hit some of the place in Mandalay Place (the walkway from the Luxor to Mandalay Bay). I particularly like Burger Bar.

If you plan on using the free tram between Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay, remember that the 'express' tram (the outer track) doesn't stop at the Luxor.

Have Fun!

I'm hoping that your stay was for more than one night
