Certainly easier, often quicker, to take the tunnel. But distance matters
when in a taxi, and my best guess is that it is about four miles farther taking
the tunnel, at least to destinations north of Tropicana. The extra mileage
cost may be partially offset by some waiting time on the surface streets, but
unless the streets are jammed, the tunnel is going to be substantially more
expensive.

I agree that the tunnel may be faster. Limo drivers always take the tunnel
from the airport to Caesars Palace even though there is no meter. The only
reasonable explanation is that the tunnel is quicker.

I barely even payed attention to the surroundings, but it is pretty hard
to not notice
being in the tunnel, especially in the daytime.
I said nothing until we arrived at the Palms.
On the trips when I'm driving my own car (as I did in April), I find it to
be a much easier and quicker drive (even if it is marginally further in
distance) to take the interstate (via the tunnel) to the Palms/Rio area that
horse
around on the surface streets, the strip, and a dozen or so stoplights.
