I agree that the tunnel may be faster. Limo drivers always take the tunnel from the airport to Caesars Palace even though there is no meter. The only reasonable explanation is that the tunnel is quicker.

I barely even payed attention to the surroundings, but it is pretty hard
to not notice
being in the tunnel, especially in the daytime.
I said nothing until we arrived at the Palms.
On the trips when I'm driving my own car (as I did in April), I find it to
be a much easier and quicker drive (even if it is marginally further in
distance) to take the interstate (via the tunnel) to the Palms/Rio area that horse
around on the surface streets, the strip, and a dozen or so stoplights.
