XVP long haul taxi form

Great find, good post, and suggestion, but this opens up another question
-- *What are the travel documents a traveling gambler should carry?*

Mine are

   - extra government ID's (passport - in addition to drivers license - just
   in case).
   - social security cards. Just in case -- and I'm not opening up the
discussion of should or shouldn't we carry our social security card!
   - In case of emergency info - but that's in most cell phones under "ICE",
   and not a document.

a form you can fill out if you are long hauled. If they have a form for it,
it must happen quite a bit. This might be worth carrying with you in your
travel documents just in case.

In April I took my first LV cab in 10 years. My flight was canceled. It
was 1am on a Tuesday (no traffic) and the taxi took me through the tunnel.
As we entered the tunnel I told the driver that according to the NTA he
could not take the tunnel route without my permission. He told me that if I
was not satisfied I should call his company. When I arrived at the Gold
Coast I phoned Henderson Taxi. The dispatcher told me that if the driver did
not take the tunnel my fare would have been over $25. I paid $22, and no
tip.

The next day I took a Nellis Taxi back to the airport from the GC. I paid
$14.10 plus $5.90 tip.

From home I contacted the NTA (Nevada Taxicab Authority) and filled out the
form. I received a phone call from them. The agent said that the only way
they could prosecute the driver was if I had his name or if I could pick him
out from a photo array that they would send me.

I did not get his name and could not be sure of his picture. The agent told
me that they get many complaints about Henderson Taxi.

Two other suggestions for documents for tourists to carry: 1)

itinerary of where you're staying.(If you're hit by a car, how will
your spouse/partner/travelling companion be notified?) and 2) list of
medications if you have any health issues (if you're unconscious, how
long would it take to find your medical data?)

Never ever carry your ssn card, keep it in a locked safe or safe
deposit box, along with your birth certificate and other valuable i.d.
And carry two wallets, one with just some extra cash, to give to the
guy who robs you at gunpoint. High quality fake cash would be a good
idea. Maybe an invalid bank cash card and credit card and
expired/depleted debit cards and some fake photos also.

They have a word for high quality fake cash. Counterfeit. It's a felony.

Monopoly utilizes fake money. Is playing that game a felony? He didn't suggest trying to deposit any of the queer at his bank.

I think the operative term was "high quality". The last time I looked, it appeared to me that
Monopoly money does not qualify. LOL

A few months ago I took a cab from the airport.

During the usual small talk in barely intelligible English, the driver
asked me where I was from and I told him I was local. This happened
in the very beginning of the ride.

Apparently this clown is not the brightest bulb on the string.

Even after he knew I was local, he still took the tunnel. I'd
guess that locals are at least 10 times more likely to know about
this practice. So if he had a clue, he'd pass on the tunnel with
his local customers.

I might have instructed him to go via Swenson, but I was tired and
frankly not thinking about being long-hauled. I barely even payed
attention to the surroundings, but it is pretty hard to not notice
being in the tunnel, especially in the daytime.

I said nothing until we arrived at the Palms. When we arrived
I told him that I am not paying the meter and told him that I would
pay him 12 bucks. He bitched and moaned pretty strongly. In fact
he just about got to be such a pain that I almost switched to plan B,
which was to refuse to exit the cab and insist on filing a formal
complaint which would probably get me a free ride and him in a mess
of trouble. I did not go that route initially because it is simply
not worth my time and trouble, even though I think this is what he
deserves for long-hauling. But this dude was seriously pissing me
off. I could not believe his gall to be mad at me and to whine about
how much the fare should be and how 12 bucks was not enough.

If this guy had half a brain, he would realize that having me leave
his cab and give him 12 bucks was a great deal for him at this point.

But in the end, he took the 12 bucks.

Next time I think I'll offer 5. After all, he's not the only one
who should be getting a good deal.

I can understand why he bitched and moaned about the $12 bucks. You
do realize that it costs about $12 to MGM and the Palms would be in
the range of $18-$19 from the airport.

According to the taxi authority website, fare to Palms with no waiting is
around $17.75

I don't think that the recent rate hike was probably figured into
their quote.
