XVP - Living in Las Vegas - Doctors

One problem with living in Las Vegas is the doctor shortage. I have an HMO
and had no problem finding the primary physcian, and no problem getting quick
visits to his office. I have degenerative arthritis of the knees, and my
left knee has been bad latey, so I needed to see an Orthopedist. No problem
getting the referrel - but it took 1 month to get an appointment, even though
when I called I said "I am in pain".

I just got back from the office visit. I was lucky - it only took me 3 1/2
hours of waiting to get to see the doctor. Some people waited 4 and even 5
hours and one lady told me that 4-5 hours was the "norm" in this office.
Apparently doctor was constantly on call for trauma and other emergencies and
had to go in and out of office or had emergencies go into his office.

Arrggh!

I can't wait to see what happens when I make an appointment for the
gynocologist - apparently the shortage is even worse for obstetrics and
gynocology.

Good news - our electric bill was lower than it used to be in PA.

A lot of Ob/Gyns are going to gynecology only, or are leaving the
state. Some effort in the Legislature to cap malpractice suits, which
are the problem in this suit-happy world.

Good news - our electric bill was lower than it used to be in PA.

Our power bill is lower in LV than in Albuquerque as well. Part of it
is that our current house is better insulated than the old house, and
the furnace-A/C is fairly efficient.
