Jean, type into your address bar www.wilsonsoftware.com. You will
find excellent software for individual poker games and Tournament
Texas Hold Em. The programs are in simliar vein to Jims' and Deans'
programs in tutoring and simulations. I think the software is only
available thru this web site though I think afew of the titles are
on the Huntington site. Shuffle up and deal. --- In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, "Jean Scott" <QueenofComps@f...> wrote:

I think Bill Burton's book mentioned a few-- Turbo Texas Hold'em or
somesuch. I'll have to look'em up and e-mail you.
Are you going to become the Queen of POKER soon??
Martin.

Unfortunately these games don't play in a manner that will help you
learn very much. The chips tend to be treated as if they are worthless
(which they are), so the bets and raises don't reflect how people actually
play when value is on the line.
Ultimately there is no substitute for experience, though software if
handled carefully might help. Reading and thinking about the subject is
probably preferable to the notion that Turbo Texas Hold Em will train you
ala blackjack basic strategy.

I agree that the free games aren't very realistic, but I wouldn't play with
real money unless I was easily winning against these games. I would also
agree that there is no substitute for experience, but I am glad I spent the
$80 (or whatever it cost) on Wilson's Turbo Texas Holdem. The program
really helped me become more selective with my starting hands. It has
helped me become a winning player over the last three years in the low limit
games.
