XVP - Live Poker Hand Question

I had the first situation occur playing Caribbean Draw-not stud. (This is a game usually not seen in LV that has a relatively low house edge of 0.8% of all antes and bets when played correctly. The side $1 bet is usually a total sucker play and should be avoided.) This was at Harrah's E. Chicago a couple of years back. The dealer did not know the rule. Since I had the higher trip, I made her aware of it. The pit boss knew the rules and had the hand paid.

One exception to the second rule is used in the table game of Pai Gow Poker. In that game only, A2345 is higher than all other straights except AKQJT.

Jacks full of 5's beats the sevens full of K's (high trip wins)
In the straight the ace is working low so the 2-6 straight wins.

I haven't ever played any live casino poker, as you will be able to
tell from my question  But there are two types of hands that I
have always been unsure about. Perhaps someone here can tell me
which hand in each of these groups would be the better hand.

Assume

a regular poker game like 7 card stud.

1. Which of these full houses is better?

JJJ55 or 777KK (i.e. does the hand with the highest rank win, or is
it the hand with the highest ranking 3 of a kind?)

2. Which of these straights is better?

A2345 or 23456 (i.e. does the ace make the first hand better, or is
it just a "5 high" straight vs. a "6 high" straight?)

Thanks.

Not always. While MOST casinos do play pai gow poker with A2345 as
the second highest straight, I have on occasion seen it played with
A2345 as the LOWEST straight. It's wise to ask about that rule when
you sit down, if there's no sign at the table about it. It won't
affect the way you play your hands (well....it SHOULDN'T anyway), but
it can be an unpleasant surprise if you have A2345, and the dealer
has 23456, and you lose.
