XVP - Live Poker Hand Question

I haven't ever played any live casino poker, as you will be able to
tell from my question  But there are two types of hands that I
have always been unsure about. Perhaps someone here can tell me
which hand in each of these groups would be the better hand. Assume
a regular poker game like 7 card stud.

1. Which of these full houses is better?

JJJ55 or 777KK (i.e. does the hand with the highest rank win, or is
it the hand with the highest ranking 3 of a kind?)

2. Which of these straights is better?

A2345 or 23456 (i.e. does the ace make the first hand better, or is
it just a "5 high" straight vs. a "6 high" straight?)

Thanks.

聽聽聽聽聽JJJ55 is higher because 3 jacks is greater than 3 7s.

聽聽聽聽聽A six-high straight is higher than a 5-high straight (ace counts as a
low card in this instance).

Jacks full of 5's beats the sevens full of K's (high trip wins)
In the straight the ace is working low so the 2-6 straight wins.

Hello group,

I am new to the world of VP and am studying hard for my trip to Las Vegas in October. I will be staying at the Plaza, NY-NY, and the Orleans during the course of a week. (feel free to insert comments about those hotels)

I am a big fan of toking the dealers, especially when it comes to craps and blackjack.

But when and how much is it appropriate to tip in the VP world. I confine my VP play to mostly .25 games with an occasional play on $1.00 machines.

I assume that the only time tipping comes into play would be on a royal payout.

What kind of tip is appropriate?

Thanks for your help.

My rule of thumb is to tip 1% of any handpay that is over $500, up to
a maximum of $100.

Sometimes there are exceptions depending on circumstances...if it
takes extremely long to give the handpay, then I'll cut
back...conversely, if its real quick I'll up the tip a little bit.

When I received my one and only Royal (7/7/03) at the Luxor I tipped $20.00. I don't know if it is right, wrong, high or low but Jeff seemed happy about it.

Hope this helps and if I am wrong I hope someone corrects me for my future payouts (hopefully).

Tipping is appropriate (although by no means necessary) whenever more
than cursory service is rendered.

This can include having someone briefly watch your machine while
you're using a restroom (required much less frequently with the advent
of TITO), adjustment of machine settings as a courtesy to you, hunting
down a cocktail waitress, etc. Of course, these are generally limited
to a buck or two.

I don't tip for hopper fills (although when playing a $1 machine which
only holds 400 credits, the bane of every vp player, after several
fills I'll offer up a tip at the end of my session).

For jackpots (and this includes pays such as quad Aces on a $1 DB
machine, when a handpay is required) I consider 1% standard. On rare
occasion I'll reduce that if I'm very dissatisfied with the handpay.
There tend to be a LOT of hopper fills between jackpots, service that
ultimately deserves some recognition.

In those casinos where I'm a frequent player and the attendents go out
of their way to make sure that I'm comfortable, I'll be a little more
generous.

With the advent of TITO, where I expect that I need considerably less
attention, I expect I'll scale things back a little.

The trickiest tip situation I have is a hitting quads at a Pick'em
bar for $600. They happen 20x as likely as RFs do on normal VP, so
being too generous can really cost you. And the bartenders expect
something also.

I usually tip $5 to a change person, then order a drink from the bar
and tip $2 or $3 for the drink.

The hand pay polls are closed.

I tip 1-2% for jackpots. Sometimes higher at a bar if I have a good rapport
with the bartender. I've never hit anything bigger than $10k so I've never
considered reducing that pct.

Rarely on just hand pays unless it was a real good winning session.

With TITO there is no more tipping on quarter Royals, just tiptoeing
out. LOL.
