xvp -las vegas worse ripoff rips even more

The taxi's have been given a "fuel surcharge" increase of 20 cents/mile -now $3.20 to get in the cab and $2.20 per mile and $22/hour in 20 cent increments for waiting time. What makes htis absurd is that it isn't really a fuel surcharge but now you pay all the fuel on top of the cost already built in to the rates. If a taxi makes 15 mi/gallon the drive gets $3 from the surcharge for the 15 miles thus the surcharge is really asking you to pay a second time for his fuel over and above the taxi rates. Note, in the past, all surcharges eventually became part of the regular rates.

Note for newcomers to the group. If you do take one of these high priced taxis fromt he airport to the strip or downtown many drivers illegally use the airport tunnel which goes opposite of the proper direction for all destinations except the very south strip and adds $10-$15 to your fare. They either don't tell you or trick u in to it saying that another road is blocked, there is traffic, or that it is much faster -it is illegal for them to go that way without your express permission. Best bet with luggage use the van shuttle services or comp shuttles if the hotel has one, and without baggage or carry on use the CAT service from the airport. Or if you are a regular ask your host about picking you up.

I still like to rent a ride; Dollar Rental. Only exception is if one
is going to stay put in same property for the duration of trip. My
first choice there is hotel shuttle or asking for a pick up from
hotel as a comp if possible. There are exceptions. One in
particular; a cab is nice if tired and cranky after long flight.
Hotel limo is nice too.

Cheers
