XVP-hotwire/priceline

You are not wrong - neither company hides this. It is in fact the very
point of their offering. Lower price for not knowing who you are getting. I use
PL all the time. I have no idea about the second part of your question.

Hi ez,

The one and only time we used priceline.com, we had a VERY
satisfactory experience.

We required a last minute reservation in Miami, for a Cub's playoff
game. Most hotels in the area were sold out. We looked up the
names of all 4* hotels in the area we wanted to stay in. There were
only two, either of which would have been fine. We then went on
line and selected a 4* star hotel in that area. We received the
Sofitel, which was absolutely lovely. We were surprized it didn't
have a 5th star! Our rate was only $100 per nite. Really a great
bargain!

I would use them again w/o hesitation, provided I did a little
research ahead of time.

Best regards,

Babe

There are ways to bid on Priceline and know exactly where you will
stay if your bid is accepted (with 98% certainty anyway). If you use
biddingfortravel.com, you will see that some star ratings for certain
areas of a city have just one hotel who is a known partner (where a
member of the board had a bid accepted). There are other times where
you can narrow it down to two or three possibilities. I have used
Priceline in the past armed with knowledge form the Bidding for Travel
board and have been quite happy with the results. On the other hand,
I do think if you pay a little more and book directly, it is easier to
gain upgrades to suites and the like when rooms are available. Also,
on Priceline you cannot specify one or two beds.

I know some people who have had success booking good rates at the V on
priceline. I don't think there was any guessing involved as they were the
only hotel of that class listed on the Strip.
