XVP: HET using poker as a marketing tool

My good friend Al received a Mailer from HET for a $100,000 freeroll
poker tournament at Harrah's for Mid-September. It came with 2 free
nights "of your choice at either Harrah's, Bally's, Paris, Flamingo
or Rio." A $50 food voucher was also included. Of course, when he
called to make the reservation the only rooms still available were at
the Flamingo. The tournament attracted over 2,000 players.

Then he received another mailer for a $70,000 freeroll poker
tournament for mid October with 2 comped nights at his choice of the
same hotels. When he called it was the same story, only rooms left
were at Flamingo.

The funny thing about this is that the last time Al remembers playing
a machine (Al is a VP advantage player) on a HET property is about 5
years ago at Harrah's/Reno when they slapped in some $1 FPDW for a
few months. Him and I both banged away on them.

The only thing he can think of for these offers is he swipes his card
in and out for the $1 per hour food comp at the Caesars Palace poker
room when he plays.
