XVP Health Insurance

Ive been buying my own since I left my job in 2005. I'm a healthy 25
year old male, non smoker, and have had no major medical incidents in
the 3+ years I've been self employed. That hasn't stopped the cost of
my premium from doubling over the same time period. I now pay over 180
per month for good coverage. :frowning:

Wait until you're older! Until you hit Medicare eligibility, the premiums are progressively more outrageous, and even then, you need coverage for what Medicare doesn't pay, until you are totally broke and qualify for Medicaid as well.

Insurance will continue to increase in cost geometrically...

as long as people want "the best regardless of cost",

and as long as physicians are afraid of using their judgment due to the threat of malpractice suits and therefore order every test under the sun for every potential adverse finding,

and as long as "the best" becomes better and better at higher and higher costs due to advancing medical technology (which must be more reliable than our desktop / laptop computer, thank goodness, and which also has a built-in cost for research and for liability exposure),

and as long as there are so many uninsured patients who cost physicians and hospitals money that they must recoup from the insured patients,

and so on.

Some of those "as long as" problems are able to be "fixed", but you might not like what you end up with. But it will be less expensive if the fix is done.

If the fix is forced on us by the government, those who want more and more but don't want to pay for it (translate: most of the public) will raise a fuss and it will get un-fixed anyway.
