XVP: Health Care was Re: Are you being cheated on Full Pay Video Poker?

Health Care in Las Vegas certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Anyone know where to go next time the wife gets a gall stone at 3 AM on a Saturday night? Everyone I've talked to has given up on all of the emergency rooms in town: count on a 5-8 hour wait. If you're not bleedin', you're not needin'.

I waited three hours for emergency room care in the hospital, lay on a gurney in the hall, hallucinated that I was on the ER television show. One thing really pissed me off, an unconscious suicide attempt got immediate treatment, but the bastards made me sign my name some 20+ times before I ever saw a nurse or doctor!!

Just a general warning to the group. Rob Singer didn't like my post, apparently he's a neocon and can't face the real truth. He sent me a private email.

know where to go next time the wife gets a gall stone at 3 AM on a
Saturday night? <<

We have had a couple of occasions (clutzy wife) to use Las Vegas
emergency rooms. Summerlin Hospital worked well on both occasions. The
first was a weekday afternoon. She was in and out in about 90 minutes
including x-ray time. The second was a weekend afternoon and it took a
little longer.

John, a good point.

If one is worried about having to go to hospital while traveling to
Vegas, HAVE A PLAN IN ADVANCE! It is a fact that should be stressed.
Many folks get confused with time in Vegas. Meds are forgotten or
taken too often. We don't get enough sleep and just an air trip or
long drive tends to run our bodies down. Know your options.

Last Oct. my wife came down with a sepses infection; kinda like a
blood poison. We were at Stardust. First question from ambulance
driver, while getting wife ready for ambulance ride, "Where do you
want to go?" I called my sister-in-law. She lives in Vegas for 15 yrs
now. She has never even considered where she would go if sick.

It's 6AM in morning and I'm in front seat next to driver. "Go where
you think it's best.", I indicated. The 2 medics discussed mostly
where the wait would be least. They settled on the hospital behind
UMC, It's a Valley hospital. It's very small compared to what I'm used
to in Pgh, Pa. I actually had nurses and doctors ask about my wifes
condition as I ate in lunch room. On day of discharge at least 4 of
the care givers visited her in room before doctors cut her loose.
These were people who were no longer on her case. In my home town they
usually don't know you even if your in their office.

In our case, the folks at Valley were great. I believe my wife got
the best care, just as good as home. Wife was on ventilator for over a
week. Family came in from Pgh. But with proper care, my wife is well
again. I posted about the hospital stay back in Nov. An interesting
fact, Valley System of hospitals is owned by a company from
Pennsylvania.

So the reason for the post; Know where you'll go in advance, before
the gall stone hits you. Of course, the older we are or the sicker we
are dictates how much we have to be prepared. It's an empty feeling
when the ambulance driver asks you where you want to go and you don't
have an answer.

Have a plan.....Jeep

John: Just a note on your health care comment. We stay at the Wynn
where about 6 months ago. my wife had a very severe case
of uncontrollable vomiting. We called one of the three doctors Wynn
had listed. He arrived at the hotel within an hour. He recommended
taking her to a hospital because of dehydration. We agreed. He called
ahead and were limoed by Wynn to the Hospital (I forgot the name, it
was about 25 minutes away). We went in through emergency and were
taken in immediately after filling out the usual forms. She was given
two IV bags of electrolytes plus antibiotics. Things stabilized and
she was released about 5 hours later. I called the hotel and they sent
a limo to pick us up. We stopped at a drugstore for a prescription and
then back to the hotel. It was an unpleasant experience that went as
good as it could be. Total cost. $200 for the visiting doctot, 2 $20
limo tips, and a future hospital bill which originally totalled
$2,0000..
We have Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield After a couple phone calls back
to the hospital, the $2,000. turned into $12. They took down some
insurance info incorrectly.
No one likes to get sick on vacation, but this didn't work ou badly
for us.

Your best bet is Terrible's discount
surgery center. It's not very good
but it's really cheap.
