XVP-Has anyone actually WON real money with Free Play money?

I have received several Free Play offers in the past from various
casinos, New York ,New York, Palms and Bellagio amongst them but can
not
remember ever having really won anything using Free Play money. I
know
that at NYNY they designate which machines you can and cannot play
and
that obviously has a lot to do with it. Any experiences out there of
jackpot hits
on their Free Play cash?...Just curious.

MO

well the other week i got a mere $5 and ran it up to about $150 and
walked away with $100 after 2 hrs...never even put in any of my
money...

Hi Mo,

I have personally won a few bucks on "free-play" offers from
the Peppermill in Reno. I also know, from reading his trip
reports, that Mark P from Seattle, has done very well with his
free play offers at Pepp, and also, I think from Silver Legacy.

I would be also be interested to hear about the experiences others
had while using free play.

Babe

Play the minimum number of hands (20 hands of 5 cred $1 coin per
$100 freeplay for example) then hit the cash out and the freeplay is
all yours. I've doubled & tripled some hundred dollar units of free-
play and cashed it out into my pocket, but not hit jackpots that I
remember.

But, it's kind of a silly question, isn't it? It's like saying who
has made money on their first $20 or their first $100. Freeplay is
an awful lot like your bankroll or trip stake. It's a vehicle to
playing video poker. Could you repeat the question? Thanks for
bringing me into a silly thread, Babe! LOL

Well, if the casino lets you play the Free Play through on video poker,
it's not a bad deal at all. I regularly get $50 free play coupons from
one of the Mississippi casinos, and I'll play it through on quarter 9/6
JOB. I usually get at least 90% of face value out of these coupons.
But I'm still waiting to hit a Royal while using Free Play

On the other hand, when you have to use the Free Play on "designated
slot machines"...yuck! I feel lucky to get 50 cents on the dollar.
There have been plenty of times when I have completely whiffed with a
$5 free play on slots, playing 1 quarter per spin (20 spins =
nothing). And many more times that I have won amounts like 50 cents or
a dollar on a $5 free play. But I do have to admit that I once hit the
top jackpot on a slot machine while using my free play. I recall that
it was 1500 coins, or $375, so still nothing to get really excited
about.

Hi Mark,

Actually, there are NO silly questions. Sometimes questions are
answered with "silly" answers. However, anyone who asks questions
is seeking enlightenment and should be encouraged in their quest for
knowledge.

Therefore, I would still be interested in hearing other poster's
tales of their personal free-play experiences.

BTW, I don't totally agree with your assessment that using free-play
is the same as using your own bankroll to play. This would only be
true if the ALL machines in the casino could be used for free-play,
not just "selected" machines.

Anyway, I apologize for referring to one of your excellent TR's, and
drawing you into this "silly" though totally non-controversial (till
now) thread.

Babe

Most of my experience with this has been at Station and Fiesta
casinos; in both places, there's no restriction upon which machines
may be played. One is required to deposit enough of one's own money
for a maximum-coin bet, but the free-play money is added after every
hand (win or lose). Thus, worst possible outcome is to receive NO
paying hands, in which case one will still be able to cash out the
originally-deposited amount.

We do need to remember that, even in games which are positive for the
player, a relatively-short session is more likely to result in a loss
than in a win. High-paying hands--four of a kind, SF, RF--account
for a significant percentage of payback. In a "short" session, one
is unlikely to receive any of these; in which case one is quite
likely to incur a loss.

I was at the Bellagio in mid January. Free room for 3 nights and $175 in
free play. I was playing DB and walked away 2 hours later up $350.

The next morning I was playing DW and hit an RF (my first ever). Of course,
I was only playing quarters, and at the Bellagio, that's peanuts (but I was
happy).

Brad collects all our Free Play that doesn't require my personal appearance. He sometimes will lose for many times straight, mostly small but sometimes big. However, he has also won many times. He has gotten 4-deuce jackpots many times - and once got a royal - those cover a lot of losing sessions.

We put ALL our VP play in one pot - remember, life is one long VP session. Your Free Play results, in the long run, will be very close to the EV of the games you are playing when you collect it. Since we often have to collect Free Play on negative games, obviously we will not collect the full value of Free Play. We get around $2000 a month in Free Play. If we collect it on JoB and NSUD, let's average those two. .004 house edge X $2000 = $8, not a bad "fee" for this.

Now - if you collect Free Play only on occasion - it might take you a long time to reach the EV - or you might never. However, it will help if you always play off the Free Play on the highest EV game in the casino - although some people might choose a less volatile game, i.e., choosing JoB vs. the higher EV of NSUD. Remember you only have to play the Free Play through ONE time. Most people keep playing a lot longer - and if it is a negative game, you will more often lose it all. Sometimes only certain games are allowed for FP redemption - then it is wise to play through the FP just once - and then, if possible, go to a higher-EV game in that casino - or even go play in another casino. Don't feel like a slave to the FP!

Now Patricia, don't get pissy......

It is an interesting question, but somewhat irrelevant. Money is money, whether free or not.

Agreed it would be fun to hear of someone hitting a $50,000 sequential royal on a $5 free play, but not of much use to any of use except for entertainment.

Dear Mr. Bearpa,

Perhaps you can explain to me exactly what getting "pissy" means.
This is an exptession with which I am not familiar.

If it is meant to connote that (as is the case with the sewer worker
who shovels waste into a bucket, and hands it to the fellow on the
ladder above him) that I "don't take crap from anybody", then you
are quite right.

Having said that, I assure you that I meant no disrespect whatsoever
to Mark, who is actually a good email buddy of mine, and with whom I
have always had a friendly relationship.
-------------------------------------------

It is an interesting question, but somewhat irrelevant. Money is

--------------------------------------------

I repeat my assertion that free-play and money are not exactly
the same. In some cases, as with all the Station Casinos, matching
funds of the player's own REAL MONEY, must be played in order to
activate the "free-play". In other cases, the free-play can only be
used on "selected" machines, which usually do not have the best
VP pay schedules.

Certainly, in the latter case, it is prudent, as Mark quite properly
suggested, to run the free-play through once, pocket what is left,
and head for a better machine.

I do believe that some folks on this board enjoy reading about the
success of others, even if it is purely for entertainment, and "not
of much use" otherwise.

Actually, I think some of us play vp purely for entertainment. When
we also make a profit, that is the whipped cream on the cake.

I was at a casino recently, that had variable cash back values on each
type of machine. I went up to a $2 triple play with 9/6 Jacks and
inserted $100, on my 3rd hand I got a RF on the second line, thank you
for 'good randomness'. I was only trying to check the cash back, but
they 'made' me take the money, good thing too, since I hit nothing
else of interest the rest of the trip.

Thanks, Harry. The Caesars comp level was indeed a pleasant surprise. I
will consider it an anomaly and won't over think it at this point. It does
present a problem for me of where to burn a bunch of comp dollars before
they expire. With no Caesars property in the immediate vicinity, I'm
noodling a road trip to Tunica.
