Recent posts regarding gaffed machines have brought a lot of
discussion. One of the things mentioned has been gaffing during
particular times of day to coincide with promotions. It was pointed
out that if this were being done that it would be noticed and
suspicions aroused.
The reason that suspicions have not been aroused is that the
machine service personnel (MSP) are very very very tiny. They enter
the machine via the coin out outlet or through the hopper fill
during a fill. They are frequently boosted up to the machine by the
casino people that go around and push the chairs back up snug to the
machines so that the patrons will not fall over the chairs. If they
enter during a hopper fill, they are piggy backed with the plastic
bag of coins. If you look close you can see them jumping from one
coin tray to another as they do a bank of machines. They have to
jump for all of their mite to make it from one coin tray to another,
usually catching the next tray with their hands and pulling their
selves up like one would if they were cresting a cliff. It really
upsets them if a tray is full of cigarette ashes as that makes them
sneeze and cough.
Once one of the MSP `s forgot to get off of the hopper fill bag and
ended up in the trash bucket. That is how I first saw one of them.
He was hollering at the top of his lungs trying to get out of the
bucket. It kind of sounded like a cricket chirping. I reached down
in the bucket and pulled him out. He was so grateful that he broke
down and confessed what he was doing. In appreciation for being
rescued, he told me which machines were set to pay off and what
time. As luck would have it, I had to be at a different location
at that particular day and time so someone else got the royal that
day.
So you see, that is how I missed the royal.
