Comtemplating using Fox the next time I come out to Las Vegas for my rental car. Any thoughts or anything I should know about them? I usually use Dollar quite successfully but Fox is much cheaper for the days I'm coming out. ty
XVP Fox Car Rental
We have been using Fox exclusively for the last several years but just a couple of weeks ago while planning our next trip I saw that Fox was one of the highest for the weeks we were looking at (2nd or 3rd week in October). So compare.

I have used Fox on several occasions and have had no problems with the car. I want to make sure you realize that you have to catch two shuttles - one from the airport to the rental facility, and a smaller one from the rental facility to Fox's facility. The last time I rented from them, they were down almost all the way to South Point.
So it will take you a little longer to rent and return the car.

I used Fox for the first time in May based on favorable pricing. If you have been using Dollar Express you may find Fox's hard sell for insurance and upgrades annoying. The desk agent will tell you they are not in the insurance business then spend the next 15 minutes trying to get you to buy insurance. My agent expressed shock and disbelief that I did not jump on an "upgrade" from a Malibu to a Taurus for an additional $10 per day on a two week rental. All of the cars I saw were filthy. I picked up a bottle of glass cleaner at a convenience store to clean the windows on mine. The car I selected was mechanically sound enough for the 40k miles it had. The cars available in my class all had 35k to 45k miles. The double shuttle trip was not a big problem as there was less waiting than I expected.
I may use them again but only if the savings is substantial.

The filthy-on-the-outside cars are usually a product of a dust storm the
night before, and not having enough time to clean all the cars. In fact,
Hertz and someone else put out signs when this happens apologizing for the
dirtiness of their cars. I rent cars from Phoenix all the time so I deal
with this all the time.
But I've rented from Fox before and found they have some pretty bad customer
service in general.

That's a good question as maybe they are cheaper being "off-airport."
For comparison, my wife just booked an Alamo Nissan Versa for 10 days starting 10/27 from Alamo for $222 through Costco but that doesn't include the taxes and surcharges which will probably double the cost.

I just booked for a 7 day rental last night & the charge is $133.10 for the week. We've used them in the spring & had no problems.

I'll confirm that our upcoming Alamo rental for 10 days starting 9/27 is Including all taxes @ $222 for a nissan versa. Without taxes it was $112. Through Costco.
Alamo doesn't give us the hard sell on insurance albeit we now do take liability and charge to American Express which covers the other insurances for ~$30 no matter length of rental.
Used to be able to toke the car person $20 for an upgrade. And nowadays a lot people don't want bigger cars or its what is in the bigger car aisle if compacts are all out.

The Las Vegas tax rate is the highest in the USA. Over 100% if you
get a cheap rental and pick up at the airport. FYI- always double
your rental rate for a true idea of the cost.
Y'all should check out Hotwire. That's who I use, and their prices can be
about $13-$20/day. Note that's before the ungodly huge taxes every
jurisdiction tacks on. The catch is you don't know what company you get
until after you pay; that might be a deal breaker for some but I personally
don't care so it works well for me. And note that when they say
"non-refundable," they mean it.
I seems to get Hertz and Alamo most often, but I've gotten Fox, Dollar, etc.
a few times too. I get National quite a bit also.

How did you get a rate like that? I'm going this Tuesday and the best I could get is $286 total Hertz using AAA for 11 days.

Through Costco but you have to be a costco member and put in your membership # and password. Used to be just a code that you entered on rental website.
This is for a Nissan Versa. Costco claims it is a 20% discount plus another $30.
