xvp - Food at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas

Beijing Noodle Co. 9 has now opened at Caesars Palace, replacing 808. We
didn't like the decor at all -- white on white swirly patterns that tried to
give you a headache. The almost all-white exterior and the goldfish were
slightly disturbing. Maybe they don't want people to linger and eat. The
goldfish seemed overcrowded and had no vegetation in the tank - they seemed more
like your next meal than decoration.

Also the food was decidedly so-so. Most of the food is of the noodle shop
variety - noodle soup with different items in it such as pork wontons. Soup
size was large but not as huge as you usually get, and not cheap at about $13
a bowl. They also had assorted appetizers (the shrimp/pork dumplings we
tried were pretty tasteless), noodle dishes, items such as chicken in clay pot,
etc. But menu was not super extensive. Our meal of soup, steamed veggies,
dumplings, desert, and chicken in the pot (1 of each) ran about $55 and
provided enough food for 2 people, but we left unsatisfied by the overall taste of
the food.

The Court Palace (2nd floor) Chinese has now also been replaced with a new
restaurant.

The Cafe Lago now serves a buffet only. We wouldn't say it was the worst
buffet in Las Vegas, but at about $23+ per person (sorry, I don't remember the
exact amount), it just didn't seem very good. Some items were strange, such
as escargot (not too bad but too much pesto). There were tiny assortments of
Chinese food, Italian, etc. Also cold crab legs and shrimp and some sushi
rolls. However while we were there, they took about 45 minutes to clean and
restock the cold seafood section so I couldn't even eat any! And it was only
5pm! Prime rib was good, but covered with seasonings or spices - I hate that
- just give me the beef and let me put on my own spices instead of your
oddball rub! Enough to eat, but some of the food just seemed odd. The fruit
tasted strange - I have no idea what they did to cantelope! The deserts were
tiny portions of not-very-appetizing-tasting items such as brownies, cookies,
etc. without too much selection.

Without a doubt you would be better off to head on the free shuttle over to
the Rio's buffet, or even cross the street to go to Harrah's buffet or next
door for the Mirage's buffet.
--------------
Hyakumi -- The sushi is pretty good here. They also have teriyaki and other
Japanese food. Prices are not cheap, but you can get a good meal if you
like Japanese fare. They also have a teppanyaki grill (like Benihana's - but
not as cheap as Benihana's or as good). You'll pay about $60 whether you
choose seafood or lobster plus filet - only a couple of entree choices. No big
show like Benihana's (which might be a good thing if you've eaten too many
times at Benihana), but we didn't like the food quite as well. On the other
hand, it was quite tasty, so no complaints.
------------
Cafe Augustus -- Food is decent but very pricey for a coffee shop. They
have a dinner special for about $29 that consists of something like crab legs
plus steak - haven't tried it. We found lunch unusually expensive for a coffee
shop.
-------------
Guy Savoy -- Top rated and top priced. Price fixed menus are $190 and $290
(without wine) and individual entrees are similarly expensive. We had a
special 7* birthday comp and used other comp $ to eat here. Meal was good, but
for $290 not great in our opinion. Excellent service. Still we were
disappointed with the priced fixed menu - at that price we expected better quality
and even better ingredients (like filet mignon instead of chicken, or more
caviar). The restaurant has one of the best ratings, but we didn't see it on our
visit. If I had another comp I would eat someplace else.
