Mapquest says the best route when driving from Phoenix or Scottsdale
to LV is via US 93. It looks like a 300 mile - 6 hour - drive across
empty desert on a 2 lane highway. I would appreciate comments, advice
from anyone who takes this route. Any suggestions on alternate routes
such as 4 lane US 17 to Flagstaff -US 40 to Kingman - then 93 to LV
(longer, but safer, faster??) or US 10 to Quarzite then US 95 to
LV??? Actual driving time for any of these routes??

93 is your best route. It's been improved significantly over the last
few years with 4 lanes in some areas. There are also passing lanes
along the way. However, if it can be slow in places. In addition, it
sometimes can take quite a while to get over Boulder Dam. I'm not sure
the worst/best times, hopefully, someone else will know.

If you go to http://www.randmcnally.com you can do a "plan a road trip" and you are able to put in all the cities along
the way. I just did it from Phoenix to Flagstaff to Kingman to LV and it came up as a 7 hour 30 minute trip, 391 miles.
I just randmcnally all the time now rather than Mapquest - better directions I think.

Also, watch for cops around Wickenburg and Wikieup. Better yet, get a good radar detector for the drive. BTW: you can make it way faster than 6 hours even without alot of speeding.

I have always found 93 to be the quickest and easiest.

Hi there
Keep your gas tank full! I ran that route a long time ago. I let my gas
get really low. Lucky for us in I came across a town called Nothing,
Arizona. As I recall the gas stop didn't have electricity untill the
person there started up a generator. Needless to say, I didn't bother
to check the price per gallon. It might also be a good idea to take a
few gallon of water with you, especially during hot season.

We have tried most of the different routes.
It is a 5.0 hour drive from I-10 and Chandler Blvd to Fiesta/Henderson going the speed limit.
Take I-10 west to the 101 then head north.
Exit 101 at Grand Ave/US60 head NW thru Sun City to Wickenburg.
At the light in downtown Wickenburg turn right on to US93.
Note - There are many passing lanes and police observation spots on US93.
Take US93 thru Wikieup (pit stop if needed) to I-40 to Kingman.
Head west on I-40 to exit 48 take US93 north skip the Laughlin exit unless you want to do Laughlin.
Take US93 over the damn Dam and follow the signs to LV.
It is a 4.0 hour drive to Laughlin from I-10 and Chandler blvd.
