XVP: Drive Safely

Last night my car was literally blown off the road by strong gusts of wind on I-10, heading West. (Milepost 180.2 on the police report.) My tires and car were in perfect shape, but I was swept right off the interstate, like tumbleweed. My car was totaled--front, back and both sides. Missed oncoming cars heading East on 10, as I faced West up against the metal rail. Guys from Arizona Shuttle were able to pull me out--couldn't see with all the blood, but I'm fine and very grateful to be alive. Ambulance driver and all the staff at Casa Grande Hospital were simply wonderful. (Even had best compliment when they thought I was significantly younger--cloud's silver lining.)

Please be careful if you're traveling on I-10--I was told there were many accidents on certain stretches due to the strong winds. If I had been speeding--a miracle, but I wasn't--I believe I would have been swept into the oncoming traffic. I was alone in my car heading for Nevada. Linda

Linda:

I'm so glad you are okay. Was it a light car? I drove to LA today on I10 and wasn't even aware of any gusts of wind. I drive a Toyota Sienna van.

Thank G-d you survived this!!

---Linda, so glad to hear you're ok. Unfortunately, my niece's lost one of
their cousin's last night in a car accident during a snow and ice storm near
Cleveland, Ohio. 21 year old girl, driving home alone. Very sad. My
brother's wife's family is devastated.

Scot:

I am so sorry to hear this. Your family had such a loss with your father, this is a terrible addendum and so close to the holidays.

---Thanks. I'm not directly related to her, but I watched her grow up with
my brother's daughters. It's just really shocking to get this kind of news
when it's someone you know personally.

of wind on I-10, heading West.................

New comments from Iowa.
Last week my wife rolled our 4 runner due to wind & Ice in Iowa,
landing on her top & thru God's grace is only VERY sore. Car
totalled,of course. Wind & SUV's don't match.

I happened to be in a Casino in Des Moines at the time, (work related
trip). I spent some time last couple of weeks at Ameristar in
Council Bluffs & Praire Meadows in Des Moines. I was suprized to
find all the 9/6 JOB & DDB. Probably other pretty good VP, but
didn't go beyond those. Didn't do very well, but as I was about to
leave the last nite, tucking my tail between my legs & taking my
pretty substntial loss, down to my last push of the button on 50c
DDB, was dealt 4 A's w/ 5. Replaced the 5 w/ 2. Still lost over 2
weeks, but that sure helped.
