XVP, Drais dinner offer, continued

I talked to Ozzie at Barbary Coast yesterday. He said I'm sorry but I can't pick up any more than the $100 comp limit. I told him that the limit isn't on the coupon, there was no limit stated when I redeemed the coupon, I was never presented with the comp and the restaurant never informed me that there was a limit. He said that all of those should have happened but I still won't do anything to fix it. He then said the standard management reserves all rights. Sure, they reserve all rights to cancel a promotion but they shouldn't be able to impose a limit without notifying you. That denies me the ability to make an informed decision. If I were a local, I would go the small claims court route.

Ozzie also said that I used the free room , implying that I should be happy with that. I told him that I have a free offer from Wynn sitting on my desk that passed up to stay at Barbary Coast. No response.

What I am going to do is a) dispute the credit card charge, b) find out who Ozzie's boss is and let him/her know how unhappy I am with how this was handled. I will also mention that this would never have happened with Lisa Vios at the helm.

The meal at Drai's was good but if I had known that there was $100 limit I would have ordered differently or most likely, skipped it. You could argue that half off the tab at Drais is a good deal. Half off a flight on the Concorde ( when it flew) is also a good deal but I would never use it. If the flight were free, I would.

If any of you have a good contact at Barbary Coast, let me know. If you have the Drai's offer, please ring up a tab of $99.80, for me. Opinions, for or against, on this subject are welcomed. If you want to email me directly, that's fine as well.

You may want to contact gaming and/or the State Attorney General about this. On the other hand, the headache (and potential ramifications) may not be worth the hundred bucks.

John: I would go ballistic if this had happened to me. That being said, I don't believe that disputing the charge would work. I don't think mentioning that
Lisa would have done it better would help either. I believe your best bet is to write letters all the way up the corporate chain, which includes Boyd management.
Try to be unemotional in the letters, just let the facts speak for themselves. They made a mistake, and what could they do to rectify the situation.Don't use e-mails
for these letters, use the real thing.

Regards
A.P.

You are not the first person to have an unpleasant experience with
Ozzie. A friend of mine had a telephone conversation with him two or
three months ago. She described him as "extremely rude".

The new regime at the Barbary Coast (Ozzie is not the only one) seems
bent on completely annoying their long-time clientele. A staff member
observed to me that they are trying to attract a younger crowd, and (by
inference), drive the older crowd away.

I acknowledge some people would argue that when you are attending a
free invitational slot tournament, you shouldn't gripe about little
things, but they do add up.

Here are some examples of the sort of thing I'm referring to.

1. Charging patrons the casino rate for rooms for nights in excess of
the three that come with the tournament invitation. (This didn't happen
to us, since we booked well in advance, i.e., pre-Ozzie), irrespective
of their play history.

2. Their new food comp system, which, apparently, does not allow a food
comp to be even considered unless a minimum of 5000 points have been
accumulated THAT DAY. Ridiculously, this means that, theoretically, a
person who has played extensively the previous day (or days), cannot go
to the booth early in the morning and get a breakfast comp, unless they
have risen early enough that specific day to have their 5000 points.
Some of the staff recognize how crazy this is, and will grant the comp,
but it is clear that the situation does cause them some angst.

3. Refusal of the front desk to write off a $1 telephone charge for a
long-term patron (not me).

The November invitational slot tournament was somewhat under-suscribed
(probably due to point 1 above). If they continue down the track they
now appear to be on, they will have no trouble at all in attracting
even less people to any future such events (if they even have them).

Jean Scott says that one should not marry a casino, rather, one should
have an affair. Sadly, I think I may be starting to see the end of
ours with the Barbary Coast.

Having stayed at the Barbary Coast before, I agree with you that someone should have told you if there was a limit. I previously used one of their offers before for Michael's and was told when we were seated that we were allowed one entree and one desert per comp, and I think one drink, and their may have been one or two things that were not included in the menu.

It seems poor customer relations that he would not at least be willing to split the difference with you. Another factor may be that I believe Michael's is owned by the Coast, as opposed to Drai's which I think is independent. After their video poker downgrade, I have only stayed once or twice for a slot tournament. It is unlikely that I will be staying therr in the future.

Lindsay reminded me of a really good point (if I do say so myself <g>). No matter how many times we've been to a restaurant, we confirm what the comp means with our server before ordering. Usually, the server goes and asks a manager, and we know what we're entitled to before we order. Then, we order accordingly.

I know it's a little funny to do this in a nice restaurant, but we don't want to be stuck with a large tab at a restaurant that we wouldn't go to if we were paying with our own money.

I would not let this die. I totally agree that if there were a limit,
it should have been known before you used the comp. I am used to
Harrahs comps and they have a specific limit on them, and earlier this
year at Wynn we were given a comp to Daniel Bussards (sp?) and I asked
what the limit was and was told it was a 'full comp' with nearly no
limit as long as I didnt go crazy. The meal was one of the best we
have ever had and we wont soon forget how we were treated at Wynn.
