xvp - Donnie & Marie show at Flamingo

Just wanted to say I have now seen the Donnie and Marie (Osmond) show for
the 2nd time at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, and I highly recommend this show.
It is difficult to compare one show against another, but I think it may
well be the best show in town that presents a big star, ala Cher or Bette
Midler (both of which I have also seen twice and enjoyed, but I think D&M
were a bit more enjoyable). Some of the other top Vegas shows are "O" (best
Cirque du Soliel), Blue Man Group, Jubilee (best "Vegas-style review),
Phantom of the Opera. But Donnie and Marie are in the "must see" category as
well.

You may think of them as a "bubblegum" act, remembering the Osmond singers
or their appearances in the 70s, but they are not that any longer. They
have excellent voices, great songs, excellent backup dancers and band,
tremendous variety of material, great staging, all in this show. The numbers
range from ballads to opera (Marie), rock (Donnie), Broadway show tunes
(both, but Marie does an outstanding segment), 40s numbers (Boogie Woogie Bugle
Boy and great "dance off" number), duets, their pop hits, and more. The
dancing and energy are fantastic.

You get 2 charismatic and multi-talented performers for the price of one.
Even if you have never heard or seen them before, I think you will enjoy
this show a lot.

We saw the show Friday night and liked it. Marie is incredible -- her opera number stunned me (and I don't even like opera, really). I never thought of her as a major talent, but Friday night changed my mind. Donny is talented, but not nearly as much as Marie. His rock 'n' roll numbers left quite a bit to be desired for me and my husband who are both rockers. He should stick to bubblegum. It suits him better.

We were comped and would see it again comped, but would not pay for it.
