About 4 years ago I attended a Las Vegas conference with Steve Wynn as
the key speaker. I was seated in the 3rd row center, and Elaine Wynn
sat directly in front of me in Row 2. When the curtain came up, there
was Steve already positioned at the podium onstage.
After the conclusion of his speech, Steve just stood there, and I
realized he was waiting for the curtain to come back down. When it
didn't, time sort of froze and everyone in the audience pretty much
held their breath as Steve turned and stumbled right into a chair
placed on the stage. He almost took a header and was really lucky he
didn't. He then just stood there quietly waiting for
assistance.
After what seemed like an eternity, the curtain finally came down,
and I couldn't help thinking someone really screwed up and would
surely be fired for bad timing. Elaine looked very unhappy, and this
mishap certainly verified that Steve's vision was poor.
Emphasis on 'just my opinion', but after witnessing this some years
back, I'd venture to say that nowadays during Steve's public
appearances he's rehearsed and appears to be 'looking' at his Wynn
hotel sign, 'looking' at a reporter, 'looking' at the camera, etc., in
order to come across as perfectly fine. So that way investors and the
general public aren't too concerned when they see how normal and
healthy Steve seems to be.
Previous to that incident, I once saw Steve walking through Bellagio
with an assistant guiding Steve, holding his arm. The Bellagio
corridor was virtually empty so it was pretty obvious Steve needed
someone to guide him. He did greet people but I think he even then
was practiced at appearing fine when out in public.
Just because someone is legally blind does not mean they cannot see
anything. If he could not see the sign it is not likely he would
have walked
all the way out to "pretend" he was watching it.

That does not mean he could see it. Just because he is blind that
would not
keep him from attending all the festivities. I know for a fact that
he is
legally blind and has very little if any vision left. He has been
legally
blind
for several years and his eye disease is a progressive one.
