xvp - converting visa cards to cash

Does anyone have any suggestions for converting Visa cards to cash without
paying extra fees? I'm getting a lot of Simon Visa cards, which I use to pay
bills, buy postage stamps, grocery shop, etc., but I'm starting to get more
than the bills I have. I'd love to be able to buy money orders or traveler's
checks with them, but that doesn't seem possible (for example the post office
will only sell money orders for cash). Somehow it seems like there should
be a way to buy say a gift certificate for something else with them, which is
refundable for cash (the Visa cards are not refundable), or something....
But I'm at a loss of an easy conversion route. Obviously I could sell them on
Ebay or to people at a discount, but I don't want to lose money. The best I
can figure out is to pay myself via Paypal for about 2.9% of face value, but
I'd rather not lose 2.9%!! So if you do have a suggestion, please email me
private if you don't want to post.

Thanks - Misscraps

I was told that they could be used to pay power bills, in which case a
credit balance should be able to be built up with the excess, but I
believe that Nevada Power charges for using a credit card, so I've
never tried it.

We're running into this "problem" ourselves. Since we earn so many gift cards/certificates for so many different places, including gas, shopping centers, grocery stores, Wal-Mart, Target, etc., we are finding it hard to spend our pension checks!!!! And we aren't accruing FF miles or cash benefits on our credit cards like we used to.

I am going to try to see whether I can pay various utility bills in advance. However, gas and electric bills charge a fee for cc use so I assume that would be true for debit cards too (Harrah's Visa cards work like a debit card). I imagine Cox and Cingular will work.

Another option that will keep them from expiring although it isn't for cash is to buy gift cards that don't expire, like Sears, Penny's, or any other place where you will be shopping in the future.

Anyone who has other ideas - I think this would be a great subject to post on this forum!!!!!
