XVP - CoachVee

I read this list everyday and almost never post, but in my opinion this
"CoachVee" postlooks like someone just trying to sell their book, I think
it's called spam. Bad, bad, bad. I like reading gambling books but this
kind of post turns me off.

I agree.

I bought their book online and while I enjoyed reading it, I was very disappointed in the way they take advantage of situations through litigation and, in my opinion, other rather questionable means that border on being unethical.

Just my opinion, but I had to put in my 2 cents worth after I read your post.

CoachVee's trip reports were generally detailed accounts of his gambling sessions and travels. Now you've got my interest! Mickey Crimm wrote that CoachVee was very sneaky in extracting money from the casinos. It always went over my head. I never understood how you could make money playing horrible Double Double Bonus paytables at Harrah's properties. Does he really tell all in his book? Will these techniques still work in today's casino environment?

I disagree with you. "CoachVee" makes many interesting post to this site.
He has earned the right to mention his book is available.

What was the Coach's biggest legal win?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I guess you'd need to buy and read the book to revisit all of the details.
.
My recollection is that one settlement was for $2,000 and free food for a number of months because she bit in to a toothpick and another was for $7,500 when Coach Vee spilled his coffee on her lap on an airplane and then they sued the airline because the coffee was too hot.

I rarely post on this site but read the digest daily but I'm going to chime in here. In the last 6 months CoachVee has had a total of 13 posts on vpFREE. They are as follows:

1 - Telling us about a promotion at Resorts Atlantic City
1 - Asking for host information at Harrah's Baltimore
1 - About Poker
2 - Promoting Belmont Stakes picks on his website and bragging about his great picks in the Preakness
8 - Promoting his book

I don't consider that being much of a contribution to the site. I now would consider his posts spam but, that's just my opinion.

In the past he did post trip reports frequently. I read every one of them when he would post them. Amazingly he always had great fortune in those trip reports but never posted a report where they lost. I found it rather odd since their game of choice is 9/6 DDB. I later found out from another member of this group (who shall remain nameless) that they were in AC almost every weekend but he only posted a report about once every month. Admittedly, Coach posted one time that he only wrote reports when he won. I forget the reason but it was something about not wanting to bring people down by writing about losing. Don't quote me on that though. I'm too lazy to dig through all vpFREE to find it. That's his choice and I accepted that. Lots of people only post winning trip reports not only here but on other message boards as well. While it's more of a contribution to the group than shamelessly over promoting a book, I find it a disservice when people only post winning trip reports and don't consider it much of a contribution at all. Again, this is my opinion.

I have no problem with anyone promoting their products but, when more than 3/4 of their posts in the last 6 months are self promotion, they aren't contributing to the group anymore.

With that said, there's also a frugal poster on this site that never misses a chance to promote their products or cull information from the group for profit but, no one seems to call this poster out as a spammer. If one person is going to get called out as a spammer, then all spammers should be called out. It's only fair!

CoachVee always admitted that they didn’t play at the highest EV possible. He was always very open and truthful about their play. He knew the numbers as well as any of us but they chose to play what they liked best most of the time. I don’t think he ever said he made money playing VP and he often reported about losing.. One main reason why their choice of sub-optimal VP probably didn’t “cost” them as much as it might for others was that they used the comp system to the max better than any other player I have ever know – I always said that Hedy could “out-frugal” me any day of the week.

This goes back to what I always say – never judge someone else’s play. We can’t know anyone’s total financial situation and whether they can “afford” to play like they do. We often don’t know their goals. And we don’t know the ends and outs of their playing choices – what extra benefits they are getting that don’t “show” – how much free play they are getting, etc., etc.!

(This may be called a VP forum but we all discuss the general casino environment and all the things that affect our VP play, including problems we run into. That is why I feel the mention of this book is appropriate on this forum.)

Mentioning a book is acceptable, flogging it is not.
It is admirable that the " posters for profit contingent " , stick together and support each other.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed Jean. I see nothing wrong with people playing for comps either, as long as they have the financial means. Personally I only care about comps if they are in addition to a positive EV play, or break even at worst. I thought Mickey's comments meant there was something more going on. I guess not. Too bad the casino litigation references only relate to personal injury cases.

I always found CoachVee's trip reports informative, entertaining and well written. I am sure his book offers nothing less.
