There was another interesting show on casino cheating on the Court TV
channel last night (and I think a different show about the same guy
on the History Channel, which I didn't see). Anyway, he was a TV
repairman who invented different techniques to get slots to spill
coins. He and three associates worked this scam for nearly 20 years
before getting caught. The amount stolen is unclear, but evidently
it was many millions. After being caught he was sentenced to 18
months, but he got out in 12 months on good behavior! Amazing. They
implied he now works for IGT designing security methods.
With TITO it might seem these techniques would no longer work.
However, one technique involved tricking a slot to add credits (not
spill coins directly), so there may still be thieves doing this sort
of thing.
One technique he used to foil the security cameras was to surround
himself with women as he seemed to play while he was really accessing
the slot innards.
