XVP - Caution, Be Aware of US Air's and Affiliate's Dirty Tricks

Being that US Air maintains a hub in Vegas, many of you probably are US Air Frequent Flyers as well as have their US Airways Master Card. Furst of all, US Air noiw charges a fee for ticketing frequent flyuer awards, regardless of how you ticket it, including well in advance, online, etc, unless you are in one of their "preferred" categories. What is interesting is that when most joined th eprogram this was never mentioned (as the fee did not exist) but now as you wish to use your miles you have to pay. So much for a "free" ticket. Even worse is their fee on fee structure with their US Airways Master Card. L:et's say that you rcredit limit is $1,000 and you have charges of $930 on the card. The Annual fee of $79 is now imposed bringing you to $1009, but since you are "overlimit" now you are hit with anoher fee of $39.95. On toip o fthis they raised the interest rate 4% on many of their cardholders, on balances you already owe! They are doing htis now
as this practice will beillegal in 2010. Watch out! This is as bad as the taxis in Vegas that illegally take the tunnel from the airport to rip you off!

What you say certainly is an annoyance, but it is not unusual.
I just booked a free flight with Air Canada and paid a $50 admin fee, pisses me off, but there is nothing I can do about it and I would bet that all airlines are now doing the same thing. No wonder southwest is doing so well.

With the credit card, you have to remember that a computer program creates the bills and it doesn't make exceptions. People do. I have these annoyances with my bank on occassion and whenever I call them they always reverse the charge. I would suggest that you call the bank that issued your card and ask them to reverse the overage charge.

I know how upsetting these things can be and I have been known to go ballistic on more than the odd occasion myself.

Regards

A.P.

My suggestion is to switch to the no annual fee US Airways Mastercard through Barclay's/Juniper Bank. Most credit cards that charge annual fees are only worthwhile the first year when you get a big signup bonus. That's why I paid CHASE the $59 fee for the Southwest Airlines VISA, got my 16 flight credits for a free round-trip and then cancelled the card in the 11th month.

The switch to the no annual fee US Airways card will preserve your mileage. Since your Dividend Miles account shows activity the balance won't expire. For example - I haven't stayed in a Hilton for years. But my balance of over 100,000 HHonors points is preserved by my occasional use of the American Express card that deposits points into it. The same thing applies to my no annual fee Delta Airlines card through American Express.

I could go on and on, but you get the point. And you don't even need a credit card to preserve your airline miles. Safeway and affiliated stores award United miles if you tie in your store card with your airline mileage account and then simply shop. Submit the application online, or talk to the grocery manager and they'll give you the paperwork.

I had a US Airway card for at least 5 years...and get this..They raised my interest rate to 28% because one payment was 1 day late (we moved and hadn't set up online banking yet).

I had a balance of $2300. I'm sure they thought they'd collect a lot of interest and hose me..but I paid it off and closed the account.

I have a very low opinion of these credit card companies that try to play games.

So here is my experience:

Chase - Okay, no problems
Discover - Love them
Capital One - Vultures - call every 2 days (sign up for "protection"
Sears - Raised their rates..we closed the card
US Air (Barkley Bank) - Snakes (see above)

Credit card abuse is the cause of this and not the bank. The suits have the right to extract as much as possible from their customers within legal limits in order to maximize profits. Besides, anyone who carries over a 90% balance on a credit card is either cash-strapped (aka "advantage players") or nuts.
