I have been in many casinos in various European cities, as well as
casinos on other continents. I have never found a casino overseas,
that did not charge at least a modest entrance fee. I believe the
least expensive was approximately $5.00.

The second casino you mentioned in Monte Carlo used to be Bally's (I was
there soon after it opened in the 70's) and there was at that time no entrance
charged. We had the most amazing thing happen there that has ever happened to
me before or since at a casino.

We were playing Blackjack with a cute French dealer. The pit bosses were
all around another table where some sheik or other was playing a full table
using big purple chunks of plastic as his currency - who knows how many
thousands of franc each represented. And I don't know if at the time they had an eye
in the sky. At any rate no pit personnel were anywhere near our table.

At some point my friend was dealt A-5 and I was dealt K-6. I smiled at the
dealer and exchanged cards so she had a BJ and I had eleven for a double
down. He grinned and paid her and hit my hand. Then for the rest of his shift,
he dealt to us, stopping when we would go over (moving the card along to the
next player who could take it without busting) and hitting his own hand until
he busted. He smiled and laughed with us ( i was chatting him up in French)
and we tipped him and didn't raise our bets. Everyone seemed to know this
was a once-in-a-lifetime event and no one did anything to break the spell
until his relief came. Then I left with my friends.

My wife and I were in Florence two years ago, shopping for a leather
coat. The sales guy found out we were from LV. So I asked him if
there were any casinos in Florence. He seemed shocked by my question,
and said "Maybe across the Arno, if they pay their taxes." I found out
later casino, the way we say it, is the Italian word for brothel!

The italians invented the casino. The origin of the word is italian-- it means (literally)
"little house", usually one that was (typically) a part of a larger estate. One of the oldest
(and perhaps the oldest "casino" in the world) is in Venice (http://www.casinovenezia.it).
It is indeed in a "house"-- though it is not that little, right on a canal. Last time I was
there, I paid an entrance fee and had to wear a jacket (availble at the casino). They had
the usual games plus VP with autohold feature turned on. They also had plenty of the
plastic cups to hold coins that made a nice souvenir. Oh, as for brothel-- the word
"casino" has been used for any place that houses a pleasure/leisure activity. But in Venice

at least, where there are plenty of signs for the "casino" I think it means, well, casino. YMMV. --- In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, "brumar_lv" <brumar_lv@...> wrote:

Does anyone know if I have a free slot play offer, does it post at midnight
that day? For example, if my offer calendar says I get $x of free play on
June 8th, would it be available for play at midnight?

Are you trying to say the italians not only invented the casino, but also the whorehouse? Nice!

You are incorrect! Nice is in France, not Italy.

I've been told the real action in an Italian casino takes place in the
Poker Rooms.

I was hoping a few posters would get this joke, or pun. Oh well, my
wife thought it was funny!
