XVP-car rental in Las Vegas

I'm going to LV in november for 13 days. I've checked various car rental companies and the rates I get back (all inclusive) are over $ 500. This seems a bit steep to me. Is this normal for car rental at McCarran Airport??

OK, I gotta brag here. We (2 people) booked awhile ago for our Late Oct trip. We ALWAYS use Thrifty, and since we typically arrive LATE night, we book the cheapest compact available as they hardly EVER have them and always upgrade us for free. Last time we drove a beautiful Chrylser 300 for the week, awesome.
Anyway, for our Oct trip we have reserved a compact for a full week, total with all the taxes and fees is....$133 (using a 10% discount code we found online, SAMS I think.)
TIP...use the Blue Chip club, you get a special line so almost no waiting, and then right to your car. With Thrifty, they give give you your contract and then send you to the lot to pick out your car and drive away.

Now, I know, some people have abolute rental car requirements, so this process may not work for everyone, but hey, we're here to gamble...so why not start at the Rental car counter? <G>

NOTE: I just checked current rates for this same time frame and even with Thrifty, it would be $196 total.

The other rule is KEEP CHECKING, even after you make a booking. They are contastantly changin UP and Down.

You may want to check the convention calendar at the LVCVA website for the
dates of your trip at this link:
http://www.lvcva.com/meetings/convention-calendar.jsp

As I was formerly in the automotive business, I know that both the AAPEX and
SEMA shows are here in Nov., and both of those will draw well over 100K
people each.

I have checked for rental rates on dollar from Nov 14 to Nov 21, rates seemed high to me as well.

Well, my consideration list is as follows:
#1 Taxes , fees, surcharges are an added 45% to your rental car cost that you can't avoid if you rent at McCarran.
#2 You must add gas before returning car - This could be up to $40 more.
#3 Some rental car companies are much more eagle eyed and caring about scratches, dents, scrapes, windshield glass dings ( no matter how small ). I had a friend of mine whom somebody sideswiped in the parking lot , scrapped paint off his bumper, and the company charged him $1000 for the repair:
This is an important consideration, as 1 incident can wipe out any savings from your next 100 rentals!
Alamo, Enterprise --> Eagle eyed, get you for anything and everything
Hertz , Dollar --> Much more forgiving

#4 It may be cheaper to rent the car for 14 days ( 2 1-week rentals ) instead of 13. A weekly rental is usually cheaper than a 5 day rental, - Check
#5 Can I pick up my car and get it out of the lot fast ?( All companies are about the same on the return ). I waited 50 minutes twice in a row at Alamo - Never again - My Dollar wait avg is 5 minutes.

good luck...

Rates for everything from hotels to rental cars vary by the anticipated number of visitors to town. The best way to see if your trip will be impacted by large conventions is to check your dates against the LVCVA convention calendar - http://lvcva.com/meetings/convention-calendar.jsp

Your dates span the Global Gaming Expo (11/14-11/16), which overlaps with an opthamology convention (11/11-11/15). Between the two, there are expected 52k visitors.

Undoubtedly, this is what's raising your rates. Put differently, the folks who come in for these conventions are on expense accounts, and if they NEED a car, they're going to pay whatever is charges, especially since supply could be short.

I have checked for rental rates on dollar from Nov 14 to Nov 21, rates seemed high to me as well.
