xvp - brief comments on Cher

Just saw Cher tonight. I asked for handicapped seats, since I have bad
knees and need legroom, and as a result our comped tickets were for last row,
center, of first part of Orchestra. Excellent seats. Watching Cher in the
Colleseum was a huge improvement over the MGM Grand (horrible) Arena.

Cirque du Cher - The new show has a lot of Cirque elements and seems a
great Vegas show. It should do better than the enjoyable Bette Midler show,
which seemed aimed at an older audience. Brief comments: spectacle, gorgeous
costumes, great dancers, Cher's voice is great, decent use of diamond screen.

My only criticism is that there was perhaps too much filler. Enjoyable
filler, but filler non-the-less, including a lot of clips from Sonny & Cher show
and Cher's movies. Enjoyable clips, but perhaps too much. Bette Midler
spent most of her time on stage, but Cher was off for a lot of time. I
understand that the elaborate costume changes take time, but these were not "quick
changes." Cher apparently feels she must change costumes with almost every
number, but a few of these could have been quicker to cut the filler time, which
got a bit much by the 2nd half of the show.

Still, Cher is a terrific entertainer, her voice and body are in tiptop
form, and her songs were great.

I recommend that you pay the extra bucks for orchestra or back orchestra
seats to be able to see Cher clearly in the giant Colleseum and on that big
stage.

Look for the usual fake goodbye/standing ovation, to be followed by the real
one, so don't leave while the house lights are still off.
