There will be a blood drive Sept. 11 (Sat) in the Key West Ballroom of the
Palms from 9 am-6pm. Call 702-228-8400 for an appointment (or presumably walk
in). Donors receive a free buffet, t-shirt (patriotic), and will be entered
into drawings from sponsors. Presumably if you are rejected you will still
get the goodies (we did when turned down during drive at Orleans).
Donors must be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pouinds, have not
donated in the past 8 weeks,a nd are in good health. Must show photo ID or
equivalent. If you have questions regarding eligibility to donate contact 228-4483
(702).
If you have traveled outside the U.S. be prepared to answer questions on
where you traveled within the last year, also if you have visited Great Britain
in the past they will want to know how long (total) you have been there. We
were turned down for visiting Costa Rica (malaria area apparently) on a
cruise during 1 year previous. Obviously if you have risk factors for HIV or
other diseases transferred via blood (such as having had sex with someone who has
HIV/Aids in the past, even if you are testing as negative, hepatitis, etc.))
you should not donate. If unsure, call for details.
Blood is always needed everywhere in the country, so this is a good chance
to donate....and you get gifts....

Palms has a "swipe" promotion giving out gifts such as 1 liter bottles of
Pepsi/diet Pepsi/coors, and maybe cash. Anyone with a Palms card can swipe.
Winners seem to be about 50% and you can swipe daily and win daily. Locals
and non-locals can swipe. There will be a cash drawing (held on the 6th - I
think - check at Palms for details). Entries are earned by daily swiping plus
play at Palms earns entries. Anyone can win these drawings, even with only 1
entry. Usually though, people have over 200 entries. I've had as many as
3000 without winning, on the other hand the more entries, the more likely you
are to be picked. I beileve you must be there in person for this cash
drawing.
This sort of swipe drawing isn't worth going to by itself, but if you are in
the Palms, you might as well swipe, and if you play a lot you should attend
the drawing, since you have some chance of winning.
