XVP: BJ tournaments and card counting

Thank you, and again to everyone else who has wished me good luck.
You betcha, I'm going there with the attitude that it's going to be a blast.

Deb and I plan to have a rip-roaring good time, but I am also not foolish
enough to go there unarmed. I'm practicing chip counting and many
other skills used by top-level players in preparation for this event.
Jefferson's quote is very appropriate, and believe me - I am working hard!

I join in with everyone else wishing you the best of good fortune. I
also want to remind you that of equal importance is the idea
of "having a good time". Revel in the sheer pride of accomplishing
what you have so far and what is to come. And although "the luck of
the draw" is a key component in gambling, remember what Thomas
Jefferson said about luck:

"I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more
I have of it."

Chip counting is an extremely important piece. Watching the UBT on TV,
they show everyone's chip count. When you are playing, you have to keep
track yourself.

When I participated in the "dry run" for the UBT back in August, 2005,
I made the final table (some skill, more luck), but I did not count my
main competitor's chip stacks correctly, surrendered when I shouldn't
have and got eliminated in 5th place.
