XVP - Belmont Picks

Hi Gang:
The defection of Rachel Alexandra takes a little luster off Saturday's
Belmont Stakes, but the third jewel of racing's Triple Crown still has the
Derby winner, Mine That Bird, and some interesting fresh horses taking aim at
him.
The "Bird" showed his quality in the Preakness but deep closers usually
don't win the Belmont and he may not get the pace scenario he needs to set up
his late run in the mile-and-a-half marathon.
Hence, I'm ready to take a stance against him.
My selections:
1) Dunkirk (No. 2, 4-1) I liked him in the Derby and I'm not going off him
after a horrendous trip at Churchill. Pletcher finally gets his go-to
rider Velazquez aboard.
2) Charitable Man (No. 6, 3-1) He looked like a special horse in winning
the Peter Pan at Belmont, the traditional prep for the Test of the Champion.
3) Mine That Bird (No. 7, 2-1) Showed his mettle in Preakness but slow
pace may compromise his chances. Plus, rail (where Borel loves to be) may not
be the place to be in this race.
4) Chocolate Candy (No. 1, 10-1) Much better than he showed in Derby.
Rested and ready for big effort. Gets Gomez in saddle.
LONGSHOT: Flying Private (No. 8, 12-1)

Enjoy the race ... and good luck at the windows.

Regards,
CoachVee

Why not give it another shot? Can't do any worse than I did in the first two races. I think this race will be very close.
1. Mine that Bird
2. Dunkirk
3. Chocolate Candy
Longshot: Summer Bird
