We're seriously considering going to see Elton John's "Red Piano"
show here in Vegas, even though it's pretty expensive (but contrast
paying to see EJ with paying $200+ to see...Celine Dion!!! The
difference between EJ and CD is like the difference between Barry
Bonds and....a peanut vendor.)
The thing that has stopped me from seeing EJ in the past has been
that in his live albums, he seems to deviate from the "original"
versions of his songs--changing rhythm and tempo, for example--that
the songs are almost unrecognizable.
Now, I realize that Elton can only play "Rocket Man" a few thousand
times the exact same way before his head explodes, and I sympathize.
Still, the question remains: if I go to his show, will I hear old
favorites, or jazzed-up "new" versions of the standbys?
Anyone who's been to his show? I would appreciate any input.

If your a Fan if him and his music, then go. He is a showmen and one hell of a performer! Having seen him 27 times I have only dis-liked one show and that was back in ' 82, bad time for him. But other than that he and the different band members he has had over the years have been GREAT! You don't have a "bad" seat in the house for the show...but some of the people around you well....Go and enjoy the show!

I have seen him when he was with Billy Joel and they were both GREAT 
. Now this was several years ago and it was at OSU stadium so maybe because it was outside it was different I don't know. If I had the chance to see Elton again I would do it in a minute.

I've seen both Celine and Elton at Caesars. After seeing Celine, I
thought it was just about the best show I'd seen. I saw Elton last
week and now have Elton's show right up there near the top. Celine's
show was great but I only knew half the songs she sang if that.
Elton plays all his oldies and there won't be a song you don't
recognize. According to Elton, his first US concert was in November
of 1970. You can't expect every note to be the same after 34 years
but you will not be disappointed. It's a great show and my wife and
I will be seeing it for a second time either in October or February
when he comes back to town.

I agee, the Red Piano is a great show. Some of the stage props were rather
bizarre but I enjoyed watching the 70's style movies running behind the
stage. Elton actually speaks and interacts with the audience which I've
never seen him do before. Of course the music was great.

We went this Spring and the show was great. I'm not a
technophobe on his style but everything seemed normal
to me. I recognized everything. Some are in medley
form though. We sat in 2nd mazz $100 seats and were
not disappointed. Think you will enjoy the show!

Saw the show in July -- thought it was terrific -- had never seen
Elton before, I'm not a big fan -- worth the money IMO
