Over the last couple of years I have asked a lot of questions on
this list about moving to Las Vegas and have received a lot of useful
advice. Many here know I live in Florida and on average travel to Las
Vegas every other week for six days of intense video poker play. While I
have been on the right side of the EV curve, all that time on an airplane
and living out of a suitcase gets old. I will miss my high rise condo on
the Gulf of Mexico but am excited about being a Las Vegas local in
October.
When I started looking at homes a couple of years ago I was
leaning toward the Summerlin area. I guess a view is pretty high on my
priority list and I was disappointed in the closeness of homes in the
area and lack of high rise style condos. I loved the location & style of
Turnberry Place but the prices and condo fees were too high for me.
Where did I end up? Regency Tower. Many of you have probably
seen this tall building on the Las Vegas Country Club. If you are at the
Las Vegas Hilton and facing East, it is the tall building with lots of
windows near the intersection of Maryland Parkway & Karen Avenue. The
building was constructed in 1974 and the interior is a bit dated and dim
but the view from some of the units is breathtaking. The unit I plan on
buying is a 16th floor SW corner unit with a wrap around balcony. The
balcony overlooks the Las Vegas Country Club and has a panoramic view of
most of the valley all the way from the airport to downtown. Can you
tell I am excited! As a resident of Regency Tower you also get to drop
names and say you live under the same roof as George Carlin & Latoya
Jackson. The entire Las Vegas Country Club is a walled gated community
with lots of security.
Since I have not closed on the condo yet....if anyone has
anything they think I should know about the neighborhood I would
appreciate your input. I am a little confused about the Las Vegas
Country Club situation. Didn't some Japanese developers unsuccessfully
try to purchase it a few years back? Non-penthouse units in the building
range in price from the low $200's to the high $500's depending on the
height/view and renovations made to the individual units for anyone else
who might be looking for this type of home.
The closest casino to my new home will be the Las Vegas Hilton.
Although I have not done much driving in Las Vegas yet ( I'm one of those
CAT fans ) the location seems pretty central to a lot of casinos to me.
Am I correct on this locals? Private replies welcome as I know this is
XVP. I just wanted to share my excitement with some of my fellow video
poker friends.
If you could win all the time it wouldn't be gambling, it would only be a
job.
