It seems like you spent considerably more time on a bus than a train.
That would be a deal breaker for me. I love train travel but buses
I'm not too keen on.

Are not these "Thruway" Amtrack buses dedicated exclusively to train
passengers or at least to locals?

Once upon a time the run from the Amtrack station in Phoenix ran a bus to
Flagstaff, then on to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was contracted out,
but the only other stops were at Sky Harbour International, a nice motel in
north Phoenix and a stop in Camp Verde, AZ. (before the building of Cliff Castle
casino).

The regular Greyhound bus crowd did not use this form of transportation. So
how are the "thruways" for Amtrack in your neighborhood? This AZ route had
international travelers, the average rider was in vacation mode, not trying get
to Grandma's house with the three kids mode. It was a pleasure on these
buses, not an endurance test in patience.

OBTW, the Chicago to LA daily Amtrack route does a thruway to Laughlin then
onto Vegas.
