XVP: American Casino and death of Michael Tata

Michael Tata who was the Hotel Director for Green Valley Ranch and
featured in American Casino on the Discovery Channel was found dead
in his Henderson home Tuesday morning at 33 years old. A curious
death that is under investigation. I wonder if Discovery Channel
will continue to air series. He was featured almost every week
getting into arguments with the people who worked under him. The
confrontations were amusing and were a big part of show. It would
certainly be in poor taste for the Discovery Channel to continue the
series. You would be watching a reality based TV show knowing the
person on the screen is deceased. It is not a sitcom, movie or
documentary. The show just wrapped up shooting a few months ago. The
only example even remotely similar is when Pedro died from the Real
World Show after it's first season. The difference there is the
viewer knew Pedro had AIDS and it was an integral part of show.

The Golden Nugget Casino show on Fox appears doomed because of low
ratings and now The Casino show on Discovery is probably on borrowed
time. I wouldn't want to bet against The Michael Tata story ending
up on Dateline on NBC. It's right up their alley.

I'm sorry to hear this news. I only watched one episode of American
Casino but I felt it came closer to depicting the "reality" of the
inner workings of a casino than most media shows, especially
Hollywood movies (which are generally absurd, such as The Cooler and
Oceans 11). Since I don't recall his name, was he the guy whose
family lived in Reno, and in the episode I saw he pushed hard to
ensure the Super Bowl party was successful?

He argued with the Hotel Manager, Ninya. He plays a very prominent
role in the show. Discovery Channel removed his picture from their
website.

If the only episode you saw was the Super Bowl episode, you would not
know him at all...I do not think he was even in that episode; he
certainly did not play a significant role in that one if he was
present at all.

No this was the dude that fought with Ninya all the time. This was posted on
a internet review of the show when it first started: "It also might be
great fun to stage a special pay-per-view Texas Death Match edition of
"American Casino," on the sprawling patio of the Green Valley Ranch, with
its panoramic view of the Strip. It would pit the property's unctuous
director of hotel operations, Michael Tata, and his underachieving
assistant, Ninya Perna. The Marie Osmond look-alike may not be the world's
most accomplished functionary, but, at least, she's pretty. I know who I'd
cheer on to victory."

The film crew continues to "live" at Valley Ranch and this unfortunate even
will be part of the series. The crew is expected to remain for a couple
more months.
