XVP, Alamo update

Good news and bad news on the Alamo front. Here's the good news:

Dear Mr. Zaroff:

As a one-time courtesy I have made an adjustment for half of the
refueling
charge. I have issued a credit in the amount of $26.92 to your
MasterCard
account xxxx. Please allow seven to ten business days for this credit to

post in your account.

The bad news is that because my contract ended early, I am charged a $15
early return fee and I revert to the daily $21.95 rental rate instead of
the $101 per week rate I had.

With no road incident, I would have paid $134 for the vehicle and $24
for gas (using their rates) for a total of $158 for 6 days. Because of
the road incident, I will pay $156 ( which includes the $27 credit) but
only got to use the vehicle for 4 days.

I've always enjoyed when I contract an Alamo vehicle. I'm a price shopper,
and generally check Orbitz (for baseline), Hotwire, the direct link, and
then will offer my lowest to priceline, being indifferent if priceline
accepts or rejects.

Last week I purchased an Alamo through Southwest Airlines (for the rapid
rewards .5 bonus). $13 a day for a mid-size, we got an Impala.

I expected the counter clerk hussle to buy all the high margin add-ons. I
expected to be able to not accept the full damage waiver and the $5.99 a
gallon gasoline, despite the horror expressed by the rental clerk.

*At Alamo it now appears that every item on your contract is now subject to
"REVENUE ENHANCEMENT".

I, too, was clipped for the $15 REVENUE ENHANCEMENT for returning a $13 auto
one day early.

It is worse because the $15 is subject to the modest 50% taxes the airport
authority, city, county, and state usurp from non-voting travelers.

In addition, when I rented, I was advised "$2 for the rapid
rewards". THAT'S $2 A DAY! I had a 14 day rental, returned on day 13, and
a .5 SWA RapidReward worth approximately $8 increased my Alamo rental $28.

I'm disappointed that every line item on your rental includes a gott'cha!
