xvp - 40,000 patients in Las Vegas possibly exposed to Hepatitis or HIV etc.

Bad news in today's paper for Las Vegas residents. Up to 40,000 patients
who went to Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada at 700 Shadow Lane between
March 2004 and Jan. 11 2008 may have been exposed to Hepatitis or HIV or other
communicable diseases. The Medical Center apparently was using "used"
syringes and doing other improper techniques so that patients possibly could have
been exposed to the diseases of other patients. This is a shocking story of
improper medical procedure ad very surprising. So far about 6 patients were
found to have gotten Hepatitis C because of the improper care. If you or
someone you know used the medical services of Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada
call the Southern Nevada Health District's hot line at 799-4636 or visit

I am not surprised. Most people wash their hands after using the
toilet. Some do not. These are the same hands fondling chips and
pounding on machine buttons. Smokers bring the toilet seat to their
lips with every puff. Would anyone here actually kiss a smoker after
he/she was gambling?

That concerned us too because we went to a different Endoscopy Center
in 2006. We called and they told us only the Shadow Center was being
investigated. However, if you went to one of the others since 2004 I
suggest you call that office to update your address or phone, if has
changed, just in case the other offices become involved.

Not sure how you made the leap to casino patrons not washing their
hands after using the toilet...given that the viruses (Hepatitis B &
C, HIV) are transmitted through sexual contact, shared drug
needles/syringes or exposure to infected blood.

40,000? A whole royal cycle.

Sorry, that was my first thought. I need to get out more.

Would anyone here actually kiss a smoker after

he/she was gambling?

Thatg depends how pretty she is and whether she's likely to punch me
if I do.

I deleted out part of this post as that issue belongs on FREEvpFREE,
not here.

I never leave a restroom without washing my hands. But what good does
it do you to wash your hands then grab the door handle or door knob on
your way out. I carry the paper towels to the door with me. My
biggest pet peeve is public restrooms that have the blow dryers (and no
paper towels) that are billed as better in preventing the spread of
germs but you have to grab the door knob on your way out. Then I have
to resort to other methods to get out of the room.

And the thing that most people chose to ignore is when using the
serving utensils at a buffet, who knows what is on those handles.

I used this facility but it was before 04'. I remember they put me
under and I took a bus home. It was around 1999 or 2000. It's a real
disgrace but that's health care in Southern Nevada.

I agree it is disturbing. On the other side, we have an immune system
that has been developed over a long period to fight the billions of
germs and viruses we come in contact with everyday. I am going to
continue to line in the open and not in a plastic bubble. PS. I do
practice personnal hygeine.

One of the things I enjoyed while in Montana was the excellent service
in the little casinos. I put the over/under on how long it takes to
get a beverage in your hand, whether it be coffee, tea, soft drink, or
booze at about one minute of entering the room. Snacks also lay around
most rooms.

Those rooms are generally 15 to twenty machines so the slot attendant
or attendants had ample time to provide excellent service. The
attendants of all the casinos seemed to all have the same kind of
training. When a machine became vacant a slot attendant would
immediately wipe it down with a rag and a bottle of some kind of
disinfactant.

In Atlantic City, many casinos seem to think a once-a-week or less wipedown suffices.

Have you ever played pineapple poker in MT (a small town near Helena), especially at the place where the cook (a reallllllly big guy) played during his breaks?

King Fish,

There you go exposing that great Hepatitis and HIV
play. I bet it will be pulled by this afternoon.
