Wynn - play requirements for comped room

I just spoke to host Stephen Gruner who told me that 3800 points per
day is required for a standard room comp at the Wynn. He was willing
to comp the first night up front, on the assumption that I would give
at least that much action. Other than that, he offered me the casino
rate of $159/$239 for Thursday/Friday nights (January 3-4).

My friend (the one who wants to stay there) got an offer of $139/219
and $75 free credit for those same dates. She played at the Wynn once
before in December 2005 to get the free buffet. (After the free
buffet, she played one quarter at a time on a short-pay machine
despite my protests. Of course she got a short coin royal.)

I have generally given the Wynn about $30,000 in action on video poker
each time that I have visited. The last time was on 25-cent spin
poker, but that was back in December 2006. Prior to that I had put in
a few sessions on the good machines near Red 8 while they lasted. I'm
a net loser at the Wynn, but not by a lot. The Wynn used to send me
random free room offers, but the last was back in July. I'm just not
feeling the love these days.

Normally I'd say screw it and head to the Venetian or see what
Harrah's offers come my way, but my friend really, really wants to
stay at the Wynn. (If I can swing two comped rooms somewhere else, I
might be able to change her tune.)

On a related note, does the Wynn still have bonus bingo on their
slots/video poker machines?

There are a lot of decent places that will give you two rooms plus
food for less than the 35K the Wynn wants for one room. Of course,
they are the Wynn, and I'm guessing you're looking for something more
than "just decent"

Most of the MGM/Mirage properties are more liberal with room comps,
but, then again, most of them have dumped all decent VP at denoms
less than $5. Excalibur, is the one odd duck of the group, as they
just upgraded their VP at $1-$2 levels.

Gold Coast/Orleans hand out comped rooms like candy, but they are not
even in the same league at Wynn.

The LV Hilton used to be fairly generous with room comps, but I
haven't stayed there in many years. maybe someone else can post a
recent trip report.

I've heard South Point has very nice rooms and low requirements for
comp rooms, but I don't have any first hand experience with this
casino.

And there's always downtown...but Downtown shouldn't even be
mentioned in the same breath as Wynn.

Oh, I wouldn't go that far! After all the Golden Nugget has a new
Porte-Cochere, a revamped casino, some remodeled, refurbished rooms
and a collection of new and more expensive, if less tasty, restaurants.

However, where the Golden Nugget beats WYNN hands down, is in their
VP inventory! The machine selection and availability is MUCH worse at
the GN than at WYNN. Of course this is in total keeping with the
philosophy of a management team whose # 1. wish seems to be that their
property was actually located on the strip!

Today I got an email offer from the Wynn:
$119/night Sunday through Thursday
$179/night Friday and Saturday
and $100 FREECREDIT
Available on select dates November 18, 2007 through January 31, 2008.
Not available Dec. 1, 7-8, 23-31, 2007; Jan. 1, 6-9, 24, 29, 2008.

Contact resort marketing at 888.320.7107

At least this is better than what my host could offer.

I can "give" this rate to another friend, but when I do so, my
friend is offered the casino rate of $159/239.

Last year, we got a similar offer. The room we got was on the 8th floor, overlooking the parking garage. When we asked for a different room, we were politely turned down due to our "offer."
The way I see it, if I was paying rack rate ($250+) for the room and overlooked the garage I would be rather peeved. So what do they do with these less desirable room? Comp 'em.
Beside the view, the room was great for $119. Plasma TV, drapes that open and close with a switch by the bed, robes and slippers.

Be aware that they hold a great deal of $$$ for your credit card in case you walk off with the robe or the plasma.
