Hey Everybody;

   Got a comp question. Has anybody ever tried to give a comp room to a friend?

   Here's the deal. My wife and I have comp rooms at Harrahs/Showboat, 2 room nights for each of us in April. We won't be using all 4 nights, but will be using 2 of them. My Sister and Brother in Law would like to come with us, but they have never been to AC so they have no players status so will likely have to pay full fare for their rooms. My question is, what are the chances of harrahs letting us give 2 of our free nights to them?

    OR, if that didn't work. What if I were to reserve one room for my wife and I, and my wife were to reserve the other room for my Brother in Law and his wife then upon checkin my wife and I do the check in for both rooms and we stay in one and they stay in the other. My brother and sister in law will not be staying for free since they WILL be gambling on the property. Has anybody ever tried this? I wonder what kind of dutch we would get in if we tried it and got caught? It would seem that the worst they could do is say that I had to stay in one room with my Brother in Law, and my wife would have to stay in the other with her Sister, right?

    It sounds unethical on it's face, but since the property is giving us free rooms in return for expected play, and we will take the rooms and give them the expected play there shouldn't be a problem. In fact, they will get MORE play than expected because in effect the play will be doubled, 2 couples instead of one. So, I don't see where we are taking advantage of the casino, since we are giving them what they expect in return for the comp rooms. AND it's not like we are reserving the rooms and sending them in our place, we will be there.

    I just don't want to jeopardize our future comps if we are seen to have abused the privelige.
  
    I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on this arrangement you all may have.

My husband and I have done this at the Rio, Harrah's Las Vegas,
Harrah's Reno, and Harrah's Lake Tahoe. The catch might be that my
husband and I have separate Harrah's accounts and get separate
offers. We have on occasion used the duplicate offer to bring along
some friends or relatives. Like you said, I check in one room and my
husband checks in the other. We then hand over the keys to one room
to our friends. The friends gamble plenty, so Harrah's shouldn't
complain (not that they are even aware).

I used to be completely above-board about doing this, before Harrah's
went to TRII. I would tell my host that I wanted to bring along some
gambling friends, and the host would comp me two rooms. The
expectation from the host was that I put through enough action to
cover two room comps. I was playing a good $1 VP game at the time,
so that was easy.

If you don't want incidentals charged to your credit card, you walk
up to the desk with your friend and tell them to add the friend to
the room and use their credit card.

In November, I was checking into Harrah's Las Vegas for my mom. We
walked up to the counter together. Since I didn't intend to stay in
the room with her, I requested a single king-size bed only. The
clerk cocked an eyebrow when he saw the two of us standing there, so
I explained that I was staying in another room with my husband. The
transaction proceeded smoothly and the clerk wished my mom a pleasant
stay at Harrah's. Your mileage may vary, but this clerk didn't care.

Incidentally, I've found that a big smile and some pleasant chatter
gets me pretty far in dealing with check-in clerks. Sometimes just
not being an a** is enough to get a room upgrade, especially when I
see other people checking in who are being complete jerks.
