Yes, they will work. As long as the withholding occurs before December 31,
there is no distinction as to when during the year it was withheld.
And you don't need a new job. If it looks like you are going to have a
problem due to not enough withholding or not enough estimated payments, you
can have your current employer withhold extra towards the end of the year. I
have had, once or twice, my entire paycheck for December withheld.
