I just noticed that under "My Groups", I am no longer subscribed to
the Win Poker forum. This may have happened awhile ago, as I was out
of of town for 10 days in Late. Jan/early Feb.

Is that message board gone from Yahoo? If not, I would like to re-
subscribe, but need the link.

Thanks.

I just had a disconcerting experience with the Silver Legacy in
Reno, and I'm wondering if my experience was an anamoly or if the
Silver Legacy treats women as second class citizens. Here's what
happened:

About six weeks ago, my husband and I were in Reno. On two separate
days, we each joined Club Legacy, and on the days that we each
joined, we did about $20k coin-in on the new account. (That is, 2
people, 2 separate accounts, $20k each = $40k total.)

Starting about two weeks ago, my husband began getting mailed offers
from the Silver Legacy, but I have not gotten anything. Tonight, I
called to see if by chance, my address was not in the system
correctly.

I spoke with Agi Carrillo, (female) Executive Host, who told me that
their system only sends out mail to ONE person in a household. When
I told her that my husband and I have separate accounts and do not
always travel together, she told me that that's how they do things
there -- and said that I could book my husband's offers (which are
labeled, "NON-TRANSFERABLE") by having him call to book the offer
and tell the person making the reservation that I have his
permission to use his offer. When I then questioned her about the
ability for me to book my own offers that I should be getting, she
said that my offers would be under my husband's name and would
require his permission for me to use them.

PERMISSION? Are they for real? Does the Silver Legacy believe that
women aren't entitled to have assets (such as comp points) in their
own name??? Do they believe that women "shouldn't worry our pretty
little heads" about things like money???

So, here are my questions. Am I the first person to be
discriminated against (on the basis of gender) by the Silver Legacy -
- or is Agi providing misinformation? Also, I was under the
impression that it is illegal in Nevada for a casino to force
spouses to have linked accounts (because of the equal property
statutes)? So, is the Silver Legacy breaking State law (in addition
to breaking Federal anti-discrimination laws)?

I welcome hearing everyone's stories.

Lainie

Thanks, Ed!

Just as mysteriously as the icon disappeared from "My Groups", it re-
appeared! I will never understand 'puters! Thanks for the link.

Good Morning, Lainie,

Just when I thought I had heard EVERY egregious action by a casino,
along comes a new story! In this day of political correctness, it
is almost unbelieveable that some casino exec, in authority, could
possibly think that this OK!

As you are aware, I've had my own problems with the SL. Through
sheer stubborn persistance, I was able to obtain some satisfaction.

I would certainly pursue this grievance right up to Gary Carano, the
General Manager of the hotel, if necessary. Their rules, if they
have been correctly conveyed to you, are not only unfair and
discriminatory, but also, IMO, illegal.

Remember also, the PEPP will be more than delighted to have your
patronage!

Best regards,
-Babe-

I have the reverse problem with Harrahs Reno. We have a joint account but everything (mailings, reservations etc) is handled in my wifes name. I've never considered that they are anti-penis though; I just think its easier for thier computer program.

don't think it has anything with being a women...they told you their
policy of one per household, so you two should both play on the same
card...shouldn't matter whose name it is in...

First, if that's their policy, they have an obligation to inform players at the time they sign up for their program. I did not enroll on the same day as my husband, and no one ever told me that I would be ineligible to receive my own offers. On the contrary, their marketing materials say that club members, "Earn valuable comp dollars and special benefits..." If there are no special benefits for certain players, then they need to state the exclusions.

Because they did not disclose this to me, they got my membership (and action) under false pretenses. Instead of playing at a property managed by deceptive discriminators, I could have given my action to the Peppermill, who valued my patronage and treated me better than any casino ever has.

Second, I frequently travel and play without my husband. HOW DARE A COMPANY say that have to have HIS PERMISSION to book a room? How many men out there would tolerate having to get their wives' permission to book a room or order show tickets?

Seriously, this all came about because I was looking at booking a trip without my husband, and I couldn't figure out why he's gotten free room offers and I had not. I guess that while senior management is smoking the big cigars and congratulating themselves on screwing their female players (by not giving them offers and therefore cutting EV), that they should be pondering why their casino is so empty mid week that they can't even drum up enough business to keep their snack bar open.

I know that there are a lot of Harrah's bashers out there, but seriously, Harrah's treats both of us equally and sends us different offers. Sometimes my offers are better and sometimes my husband's offers are better, but either of us can pretty much book a free room whenever we want one. Harrah's does not discriminate against people the way that MGM Mirage Mandalay seems to.

As far as your suggestion about playing on the same card, here's my question for you. Just how do you expect a casino to treat a player who checks in under someone else's name, takes someone else's comps and plays on someone else's card? If that player was to get a W2G, whose name would be on the tax form? The name of the official player? or, the name of the actual player? Either way, the casino is encouraging FRAUD. How does the IRS feel about this (especially for spouses who file separately)? How can a player be expected to accurately prepare a tax return if the casino sends out inaccurate tax records (such as 1099s for promotions)? I can just see my husband saying to an auditor, "But I wasn't even in Reno on the date that they claimed that I won this promotional prize; I have proof that I was in New York on that date."

Now take this a step further. What if my husband and I weren't married but lived together? Would the same rules apply? If so, why? If not, then why are they discriminating against married people?

Seriously folks, the "roll over and just take it" attitude shouldn't fly in 2006.

I could go on and on, but I have to get to work.

You make an interesting point. I've never had a joint account so I really don't know how they work. I had always assumed that joint accounts were in both names and that offers would come to "John and Jane Doe."

What about joint accounts when both members are the same sex? (Yes....they
do exist.) How does the Silver Legacy decide which member is the 'man' and
with one is the 'woman'?

again if it that important just use your card and quit using your
husband's card...unless of course he is equally po'd...it is a private
club and they can pretty much make up the rules...and if they aren't
advantageous, then you can play elsewhere...at least that is what i
do...

I've had the exact same experience. Of interest, the Harrah's case
is intentional and a direct effect of their marketing program which
is more likely to target women. I think at the other casinos it's
more organic and an outgrowth of historical norms rather than any
intention to discriminate. I suspect when informed of the
perception most resonable managers will try to resolve issues like
this as it's not how they really think or want their casino to be
perceived.

My wife and I have a "joint account" at the Reno Sands. Our play is
rated separately, but our points are tallied cumulatively. We both
receive offers of varying proportions depending on our prior play. In
fact, we've been able to make back to back reservations using both
offers to effectively double our stay. But we've had to make
reservations independently based on our received offers, i.e. I can't
use hers, she can't use mine.

Get a separate address, then they would never know that you're in the
same household. Joint Accounts do nothing but cut your mail in half
if you're both heavy action players. If you both play big you both
deserve the Full Monty in terms of offers.

Think Outside the box, get a mail drop.

We share your persepctive on joint accounts, which is why we don't have any. That being said, I like your suggestion, so thanks. We were actually talking about that last night (after my phone call), and we're thinking that from now on, any time we sign up at a new casino, we'll use our home address for one of us and our mail drop box (which we already have) for the other.

Brett, thanks for your response. I'm confused about your accounts however. If your points are tallied together but they're separate accounts, how do they know how many comps you can take (vs. your wife)? Also, do they do cashback? If so, how do they determine who gets what?

Finally, as you can imagine, I'm looking for a new place to play in Reno. How does the Sands compare to the SL in terms of mailers?

I don't have any problems with getting different offers from my hubby. (In fact, we like to compare offers to try and learn casino marketing biases so that we can maximize our advantage.)

I would do as Babe suggested and contact some higher ups. If they
give the same lame, "get your husbands permission." Inform them that
this is 2006 and women no longer have to get permission from their
husbands, hell tell them you are even allowed to vote now a days.
Then inform them that neither of you two will step inside of their
casino again and you are going to inform all of your friends to
avoid their place.

Also bring up the question of discrimination to the higher ups,
don't think they would want the possibility of something like that
getting out in the press.

Jacob

before the wife, so he would be the member at that address who gets
the offers? Perhaps if the wife were ahead of him in line at the sign
up desk, she would be getting the offers.
