Does anyone know the locations of free wi-fi downtown. Will be staying at 4 Queens but don't think they offer it.
thanks

As of a year or so ago, The Main Street Station had it. I believe the
McDonald's doesn't.
You should also be able to get free wi-fi at the Golden Nugget Starbucks. It has been a year since I stayed at MSS and they still had it then, but the reliability and speed there have been somewhat suspect in the past.
I have purchased the in-room access at the 4Q. I think it's only around $10 per day and the speed and reliability are very good. To me, I'd rather pay a few bucks per day than have to drag my laptop from hotspot to hotspot. (But then, I do not have an iPad or other small laptop device - it's a regular size laptop with a 17" screen.) I might feel differently if I had a more portable device.

No, there is no wi-fi at Starbucks in the GN. This is a common misconception. Most Starbucks in casinos are not owned by Starbucks. Due to this, most do NOT offer some of the standard Starbucks offerings, such as wi-fi.

Not too far from the Four Queens is the Beat Coffeeshop, at the corner of Fremont & 6th Street (next to the El Cortez). Good coffee, colorful scenery, hippy dippy art galleries, vinyl records, and free internet. Ask the clerk for the secret code to connect.

When I'm in a place with no internet connection I use an app called EasyTether
by Mobile Stream on my android phone. I have an unlimited data plan so I'm not
sure if this would be a solution if you have limited plan.

I have 2 apps on my iPhone. They were free and work very well. They use the GPS location service to locate free WiFi in your immediate area. Many McDonalds have them and you can just park in the parking lot and use your laptop/phone in your car.
