Why play 9/6 JoB if the casino has FP Pick'Em? (ie: LV Hilton)

9/6 JoB = 99.5% w/a 19.5 VAR.

Pick Em has a return of 99.95% and a 15 Var.

Am I missing something or does PickEm beat 9/6 JoB in every category?

At the Hilton, the only reason I see playing 9/6 JoB over PickEm is
the 25c 10 play machines. More hands in a shorter period of time for
those who have a limited amount of time in Vegas, and want to rack up
the $6000 coin-in quickly for RFBL. And multi-play machines smooth
out the curve so you are closer to the EV?

Or is my logic flawed? If so, why is it flawed?

PS- Marketing promos now come out of your comps at the Hilton?

David,

I see you have been reading the VPFree listing on LVH (see
previous answer to your comp question). <g>

Probably, except for one - Many people consider PE to be lackluster
and unexciting. Also, I suspect that many people like JOB because
they get a better opportunity to choose their result. What I mean by
that?.... well...

With JOB, you are dealt 5 cards; you choose which cards you want to
hold and the remaining cards are discarded and then replace with new
ones. Thus - Draw Poker; your actions make a big difference in what
the result will be.

With PE, while you still need to make a decision... it is one and
only one decision - either the left pile or the right pile. All that
you have to go on is 2 choices of a 3-card hand.

And while the pay table looks better with PE than JOB - take into
account that a PE RF is expected almost every 352,000 hands; while a
JOB RF should occur every 40,000 (almost 9 times as much).

Don't get me wrong, I like PE and have played it at LVH (and a couple
of other PPE casinos in LV). I can tell you that hitting a 4OAK on
PE is pretty cool. However, I can also tell you that it can be
boring.

While I agree that you can get to a set coin-in limit quicker with a
multi-play game than with a single-line; I am not so sure about
your "smoothing out the EV curve" comment. If I remember correctly,
multi-play raises the variance on the game; because, instead of each
hand being independant of each other, they are all dependant on the
deal of the 1st hand; i.e. get a good dealt hand, you've got 10 of
them.... get garbage, same thing x10.

Someone can probably do the math on this and give a better answer.

The variance of the game is higher than single-line quarters for just the reason you mention; however, it actually does provide lower variance than playing a single line that would offer equivalent coin-in per play (in this case, the "coin" would be $2.50 but considering that multi-line machines take slightly more time to play through a basic equivalent would be $2 single-line 9/6 JB). In short, 10-line quarters will certainly carry more variance than single-line quarters but less than single-line $2.
