Why not Reno (instead?)

If I ever go back to Reno, Id stay at the Atlantis. It's the nicest hotel in Reno away from the downtown area which is a little rundwon and depressing.
If you're planning on visiting several hotels, I'd recommend a rental. The Atlantis is a bit of a drive from downtown. There are also some nice day trips you can take. The to Tahoe around the mountain is amazing.

but can someone tell me what the

best place to stay in Reno is? Also, is a rental mandatory.

Many of the hotels have car rental on site. The last time we visited
Reno we took the shuttle to the hotel and only rented a car on the
days we wanted one. You are correct about the drive around Lake
Tahoe, it is outstanding.
